I have an OS 61SF (round head) and I need the head for it. The spark plug hole is stripped.
Or - does anyone have any ideas how to fix this head. I don't think that it will ever be like it was before so I rather buy the head from someone

Helicoil kits are available at Pep Boys , have to ask 1/4 x 32 is the size.

thanks comet1, but I have a question...if you "re-thread" it...wont the hole be wider and the glow plug will not fit tight?

Nope

, it will have the same fit as original , have been using them for years on all types of stripped threaded holes

Still wondering though about the re treating. Im going to try it and report back. I just think that re threating would eat more "meat" away from the engine so the glow plug would dance in the hole...I am not debating this...I have no doubt...I am just trying to understand it. :-D

You would drill and tap the glowplug hole oversized. The helicoil is a threaded coil of thread "wire" that screws into the oversized threaded hole. Check out this link:

Personally I have no reservations using them where the bolt goes in and stays there, but a better solution to helicoil in a temp and vibration environment is what is called a "Timesert":

We used them for years to repair stripped plugs, some the result of automakers posting their 100K before the first tuneup. Ever try and pull a plug in an aluminum head that long?

p.s. I've seen too many helicoil inserts come out with the plug, or worse, thread inwards with the new plug to fall into the cylinder.
