High Wing pusher - 54" Chuck Glider conversion

I would like to share with you my High Wing pusher - Chuck Glider conversion project.

It was a very tempting proposition to me to do this conversion as the 54" wing span foamy chuck glider could be purchased at HobbyTown for just $8, and the rest of the material was available on hand.

It started as a RET first, then modified the wing to have ailerons, with two 9g servos on the wing. No landing gear , hand launch and belly land.

The design proved to be very stable and nice to see flying on the air.
"It flies like it is on rails" ...

It has shown also to be quite capable as a trainer and a platform for a Mobius HD camera.
It is well behaved in windy conditions, to the point that I flew it in one occasion when the wind blew my hat off...

some numbers:

and here are some numbers:

AUW : 933g = 32.9 oz

Length = 38.5"
Wing span = 54.0" , wing chord at root = 6.75" ; mean wing chord = 7.5"
Wing area = 405 sq in = 2.81 sq ft
Wing loading = 11.7 oz/ sq ft

CG is located 3.25" from wing leading edge at root.

Vertical distance from top of horizontal stabilizer to wing bottom = 5.5"
Horizontal distance from trailing edge of wing root to root leading edge of h stabilizer = 14.0"
Horizontal stabilizer + elevator inscribed in rectangle of dimensions = 18.0" x 8.0"
Vertical stabilizer + rudder inscribed in rectangle of dimensions = 8.5" x 6.5"

Vertical distance from top of tail boom to motor shaft = 6.25"

motor spec

The motor is a Turnigy 2217-16 , 3S , 20 A , 73 g , Kv = 1050 RPM / V ,
turning propellers in sizes from 9x6 to 10x4.7.

The battery is a 2200 mAh, 3s, 30C, weight = 200 g = 7.07 oz .

yes it is , close to two pounds. built strong , plenty of strapping tape and packing tape.
actually survived many crashes and tree captures ...

in the end , wing loading is not that bad, I think
Maybe it is time to build a really lightweight version ... ?

for the record , I regularly fly for 15 mins, with a record of 30 mins one day when I just wanted to glide, and use the wind activity on my slope.

JZ, just sayin’ , a Light version should be a real floater... just judging from similar projects built in the past ...
