Beech Staggerwing kits?

Are there any good quality kits for this plane on the market? I received a book on Classic Airplanes and was floored when I turned the page and saw the lines of the Staggerwing. It is the almost perfect blend of old and new. A biplane with modern lines. Any suggestions? The only thing I have seen was the Clancy Aviation StaggerBee. Not quite the same though.

Hi Mike,

If you can wait a little longer, Doug at Mountain Models is working on a Stagger wing. Based on the quality of his previous stuff, it will be worth waiting for.

Also, there are a couple older foamie Staggerwing kits on ebay right now if that's up your alley.

Best Regards, Mickydee

Dumas makes a great little laser-cut kit that can be converted to R/C but its pretty tiny (17-1/2" ws)

At the other end of the scale, Byron used to make a giant scale kit that is still sometimes available used.

Thanks for the replies guys! That walnut scale is neat and the price isn't bad either. I appreciate the link.

It really is a beautiful airplane. I was flying out of Santa Paula airport (SZP) one day some years ago, and while tieing the Cessna down was treated to a spectacle; 7 newly restored Staggerwings flew in and landed. They were gorgeous! The only fault I could find on any of them was one drip of oil on one's pushrod tubes.

When you build yours, don't forget the ground view window in the floor that the pilot used to see the ground on landing!

Thought you might like to see this one.
I was going to do a conversion myself, but I got antsy and was freeflying it. It hit a tree, bounced off, and just as it recovered from its dive, it then flew right under a moving sports utility vehicle. OUCH
I was crushed and so was it.

Guess I'd better order a new one.

I bought one last fall intending to fly it indoors this winter, but winter is over (here at least) and I haven't started on it yet. Laser cutting makes building go a lot quicker than all the printwood kits I did so I don't have any excuses.

Mike,

What size staggerwing are you looking for? I have built (but not test flown yet) my prototype staggerwing for GWS "A" drive. I am going to be working up plans for a larger one as well this summer (Quadra 35).
I draw my plans on AutoCad 2002, and update/change after prototype evaluation.
