F3B Timer / Calculator ?

Hi there,

Does anyone of you know about a timer/calculator for F3B competitions ?
I know about the PDA program that Pantano made, but i'm looking for someting to make myself.
Problem is : i'm not a "programming-wizzard"

I'm thinking about a simple box with a micro-controller, a few buttons and a nice LCD display.
I saw once a guy with such a box but don't know where/when/who....

I've found a thread on a micro-controller site, but the data was deleted long ago

Hope one of you knows something i mean.

BR,
Nick

There are Android and iPhone apps that might be what you want. Do an app search for Talking Timer. I think Android is better, but iPhone has something too.

I built a setup like that for everything for F3b event. http://www.eclipse.net/~mikel/f3b/signal.html a number of years ago. A few instances are floating around the US and a few other corners of the earth.

If you wanted to put something together today for a single pilot, you might want to start with an Arduino. Maybe start at the playground and see if you can find the bits and pieces needed http://arduino.cc/playground/Main/HomePage

And if you want some cool gadgets to integrate in, check out sparkfun, http://www.sparkfun.com

In Android market, if you do a search for F3b timer you will find what you're after. There is also a timer for F3j and F3k.

Hi Mike,

We've been using your timing device. But lately we can only get one pickle to work. We've cleaned the contacts and buzzed out the wires and all checks out OK. When we depress the pickle you can hear click but no sound works on A,B, or C. D works most of the time and sometimes C will work.

What can we check next to solve the problem?

Rich

DIY F3B timer (in (slow) progress)....

Hi,

I've started to play with "Arduino". This seems nice and affordable.
My first clock is now working, designed for the Speed-task.

If there are more people playing with this, please let me know. All the help is usefull...

Regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,
I also develop AVR (embedded) applications and was wondering what size market there might be for a specialized soaring timer with all the bells and whistles. I use AVR Studio 5.0 rather than the more basic Arduino tools and have a nice s/w architecture (multitasker, ints, realtime clock, keys, displays, etc) that could be applied. Maybe we could take this discussion offline?

Isn't it that what you want can be programmed as an App in your smartphone?
There are F3X timers available for Android and iPhone.
