Question on 8.5mm motors

I was browsing through the Horizon Hobby website and noticed that they had three 8.5mm motors listed; the Parkzone Sukhoi motor, the Parkzone P-51/T-28 motor and then one from E-flight. I'm wondering if anyone could tell me the differences in the motors and which one is the "hot" motor of the three.

The 26m motor is the same motor in the Champ. Short length wires, translucent white end bell. Mid power. About 1 Amp with a 5"X30 prop.

The P-51/T-28 motor has mid length wires, black end bell and is know as a "Mustang Motor". Pretty much the std wind in all of the PKZ 1S planes. About 1.3A with a 5"X30 Prop

EFL9052 is the 4site/Extra 300 motor. Same as Mustang Motor but with Longer Lead plug

The New ASXtra300 Motor (not listed) has a 23mm long can and would be the highest Power 1S plane motor from HH. It probably draws around 1.5 A with a 5"X30 prop.

THANKS for the info. It sounds like that all the HH's present 8.5mm motors are about the same.

Are there any other 8.5mm motors out there that may be better than the HH stuff?

The new ASXtra300 motor is probably just as good as anything you'll find. With the added benefit that you won't have to change the pinion gears out. One thing to remember is you must use the best batteries to take advantage of these motors.

I think you missed UNGN's thrust - there are three very distinct power levels, in order from low to high: Champ; P-51/4-Site/T-28/Extra, etc; and the new AS3Xtra (a helicopter motor). The more powerful motors need better batteries than the lesser.

Alternatives include the Bravo SP and SX motors discussed here. Hopefully the AS3Xtra motor will be the breakthrough IR points out.

Thanks everyone. good information all the way around.

I've made a 15" span 3D plane that uses the P-51 motor and gear box. It does all the typical 3D maneuvers but it would be more fun if it has just a little bit more power. I was hoping to find a slightly more powerful motor I could just slip into the P-51 gearbox.

Does anyone know if the AS3Xtra motor is more powerful than the Bravo SX motor? I`ve got two scae helis using the Bravo SX mechanicals that are a few grams heavier than the standard Bravo SX and would like to drop in a more powerful motor that`s the size of the Bravo SX motor.
