CorroStang2 - Strega

I have built another Reno Mustang with a few improvements

Miss America...wingspan 51".......fuselage 37.5".......Spinner 3"

Strega............wingspan 53".......fuselage 34.5".......Spinner 2.4"

I shrunk the fuzz by 8% and increased the wing by 4%

I also built the Strega with 2mm Correx for the fuzz, and the formers. The original Miss America was 1162 grams. The Strega is a bit over 1000grams, but I have added a rudder servo and dont have it totally balanced yet. But I'm not sure using 2mm for the fuzz saved all that much weight

http://www.strega.com/ "Strega" is a highly modified P-51 Mustang, and nine-time Reno National Unlimited Gold Class Champion, Owner/Pilot - Bill "Tiger" Destefani, Pilot - Steven Hinton

anyway, I maidened it yesterday at Lady Slipper in a strong WSW wind, it flew fine, but it really wasnt ideal conditions for CorroScale, as the wind was slipping along the face a bit, was difficult to get good penetration going at this weight.....will get it out to play with the Migs later

Jim that Strega flew great I think it will out fly a Mig7 in the right conditions and I won't mind flying it at Maitlands

saying that I do think the Mig will out perform it in a lighter wind.

Straight flute correx

A question for the PE folks....I was just in Maizeys and was told that they no longer make straight flute correx and have not made it for 2 years now!. So, other than old stock only the S-flute is available now. Needless to say I stocked up on old stock!

Have you found the same in PE, and if so, are you using the S-Flute material and how does it work? I would expect it will make getting accurate folds and bending the correx around fuselage curves quite difficult, but could help stop the chordwise creases on correx wings.

Thanks. Jhb only had 2mm white...so I stocked up! On reflection I think that S-flutes will make for stronger wings, but is definitely not suited to fuse construction. Guess I'm going to be searching for old signboards to meet my 3mm needs from now on!
