F-16 (1/12 scale) 90mm by Tamjets

I just got a big box from Tam the other day . It's their 12-th scale F-16 for 90mm fan.

http://www.tamjets.com/falconedf.php

One of the first threads on it is here:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4215132/tm.htm

where it is claimed that it flew on 10S (what cells?) and 2300W with air retracts at just 7.3 lbs rtf ...

There's already another long thread on experiences with the prototype, which I understand differs from the production version by a few small details:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...=645446&pp=100

I haven't even started looking for the rest of the components yet, as I will probably get some directly from Daniel when I visit De next month.

He apparently plans to distribute the Tamjets F-16 in Europe:

http://www.schuebeler-jets.com/index...page&Itemid=55

50mph winds today so no flying

Here's a few pics of how it looks so far, haven't been doing much edf work lately as I have spent most of my spare time flying the Rafale and Sabre ...

So far I plan on Tam recommended servos, Springair 602 retracts, Lehner 1950 new larger open endbells in the HDT DS-51 Schuebeler fan, Hacker/Jeti/Spin 99 or Kontronic PowerJazz / Jive on either 9S 5000 or 12S 3200 cells (I made a decision three years ago to only fly multiples of 3S Lipos).

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...=812213&pp=100

The above choices are in part dictated by what I already use or have lying around, Tam offers a number of very nice, proven, reliable alternatives.

I'd been considering the new Kontronic Kira 650 motor as an lternative to the Lehner 1950, but it seems a bit too small at this point,

Quite a big bigger than my JePe 90mm F-16, and even a bit larger than the Aeronaut Rafale twin 90mm rocket

As shown on Daniel's website, the new Lehners have plenty of cooling

I will need a picture from Gregg to see how he has fitted his battery in there, so I can see whether 9S 5000 or 12S 3200 will work, or both (or neither) ... and decide from there what Lehner wind to pick...

The weight table is as follows:

fuselage 843 g

tailcone 28 g

fin 81 g

left wing 196 g

right wing 207 g

left elevator 64 g

right elevator 67 g

canopy 30 g

cockpit & pilot 29 g

intake ducting 129 g

additional formers 62 g

three wheels 59 g

carbon rod linkage 6 g

misc hardware 62 g

fg tape 5 g

so the empty weight is ca. 1.68 kg or ca. 60 oz.

Are those Lehners a special order through DS? I can't say I have seen them with that option anywhere else.

They very well might be ... I noticed the same thing, Daniel might be able to answer that better than anyone else.

Tam 1/12 F-16 power setup

Dear fellow EDF nuts,

I am working on the same jet. I went with the edwards scheme. I have my landing gear in, not doing the doors, and have to work on the steering setup next. I have a midi fan on order from ducted fans.com and want some suggestions on the motor to use for the midi fan on 8-9S setup. I have heard the mega 22/30/3 is good, but would like to know if there is anything a bit better for it. I know the hacker E series and kontronic circa series are about 1-2 months away prob. Will any of the neu motors fit the wemotec midi fan?
Want a good powerfull prob 8s setup. $250-300 for a really good motor would prob be worth it to me, just want to be sure it would fit the midi fan.

Thanks,

Matt

Here is view from the front and rear. The 2 5cell backs fit in between the front lip of the motor hatch and the equipment tray under the canopy hatch. When I ran 3 3cell packs they all fit in the same area. 1 in the center with 1 on each side.
