"5EZP" L-39 Albatross

Finally got round to rendering this in foam. Here is my first mock-up. She's 46" long with a 37" wing-span.

Glued the bird together this afternoon and took her to the Terre Haute RC Club meeting for model of the month.
The white disk is my motor and 6" prop clearance template.
Note the dorsal air intake. Her prop will have about a 75% open face for airflow.
She weighs 9.5 oz w/o gizmos. Probaly going to be pushing 27 oz at the flight line.
Thinking a SMJv2 with 6x4 prop and 50A ESC. So about a 1.2 Thrust to weight ratio.
This could easily be an EDF.
I misspoke. She is 52" long with a 37" wing-span.

Didn't like my first try at the rear fuse and tail.
So I took it apart, mounted the motor and rebuilt the rear fuselage and tail.
There, that looks better.

Great glide tests. You're mighty bold conducting them in such a crowded space.

Thanks Jim.
I used to do them in my backyard at the big house tossing them over the pool cover.
I like tossing them from the second floor porch better. I just wish I could toss them over grass instead of concrete.

Thanks.
Actually I maidened her today in a 12mph wing with 15 mph gusts and I cut power just as I flared and I stalled her just in time for a wind gust to scoop her up and flip her. Cracked her fuse a bit. Took me 10 minutes , tape and a hot glue gun and she's ready to fly again.
I should have stayed on the throttle .

Isn't that Breitling Team Awesome?
Maybe I could do what POPORBIT did with my "5EZP" F-22. He did them half size and joined three of them with carbon rods and flew them in formation.

So Put the "5EZP" AERO L-39 ELEVATOR back like I originally built it (fully articulated) but forgot to reinforce the stab from front to back.
This allowed the control horn to break the foam and rock to and fro which made for some interesting flight behavior.
I finally realized my error and fixed the stab and horn connection with a piece of control rod and continued to fly.
