Question
Help with Wing Issue

Hi,

I was given a 900mm TELINK TORO foam wing. Power train is 2200kv motor, 8 x6 prop, 1300mah 40c lipo. Wing flies ok at low speed, but when I throttle up, the wing goes into an uncontrollable spiral and heads for the ground. This has happened numerous times. The only way to get out of the spiral is to pull the throttle back to idle and attempt to steer out of the spiral. Is this problem a result of too much torque created by the motor/prop? It does happen every time I try to fly with some increased speed.

thanks,
Ken

Might be slightly tail haevy.
I would try adding a little nose weight (maybe 1/2 ounce) & see if that makes a difference.

Another thing to check would be the motor thrust angle.
If the mount was ever damaged, maybe it wasn't repaired correctly.

Motor thrust angles wrong.

When viewed from the back, the motor should be tilted to the right and the top of the motor forwards.

Will use a couple spacers to further alter correct thrust angle. Thank you.

Looking at the plane, and the power system it was designed for, my guess is you're dealing with flex in the elevons, or even the wing itself. Weak linkages or servos could also be the culprit.

Bad thrust angles can make a plane behave poorly, but you'll be fighting them every second the motor is on... or more commonly, you'll trim the plane to fly under power, then fight it ad nauseam in a glide. In any case, a sudden+complete loss of control is very unlikely to stem from a thrust angle issue.

I'm with Piece on this. The motor for that plane is mounted in the same plane as the wing itself (not on a stalk way above or below the wing). It is exceedingly unlikely that thrust angle is responsible for the behavior that you described. If it was ridiculously off, you'd see the behavior way before you ever got a chance to get it up to higher speed.
The sudden departure is more likely related to flex in the wing or linkages as Piece said.
