Poll
best whooosh - sound

I want to start a poll to find out which EDF has the best whoosh - sound at the moment.

Performance or efficiency is not the target - sound only is of interest

Also not the quietest one but the best "realistic"(as long as you can talk about realistic when it comes to EDF's ) sounding one is of interest.

Please only quote when you really can judge by real experience and not by youtube videos as they falsify a lot related to sound. Also only if you can compare several EDF's by experience (not necessarily all yours, but you already should have heard others to be able to judge which one sounds better)

Some notes:
I only took three manufacturers in the list
but if you have another one that sounds even better, please let me know and I will add it to the poll. EDIT: BUT DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW

"low power"
in this list means about half of the max. potential of the EDF.For example: the Jetfan 90 can produce up to 6,2kg of thrust (LBP 4082-B-1250kV@12s5000mAh 40C: ~130Amp/5,6kW).
So a low power configuration for this 90 would be something like a HET 700-60-1865kV@6s4200mAh 35C: ~90Amp/2kW producing 3,15kg of thrust (which is not low power at all - only in comparison with the max. possible power of the EDF!)

I only took the Jetfan 90 into the list
If you own a 80, a eco or a V2 please also vote for the 90 - otherwise the list would be much to long

Feel free
to add lots of comments about your configuration and how it sounds - especially what influences the sound and how you derived the best results!

So, thank you in advance for your participation and I hope the results will also help others when it comes to the decision "which EDF for my next scale-Jet"

Greetings from Bavaria!

Hi Mr.UD,
something like this:

Fast flyby with Jetfan120 (0 min 5 sec)

Full duct and doors on this plane makes it very very quiet.
Because of a not so good landing, i take away the front door - and the plane gets much louder - as you can here in the short video.
Also - the incoming air to the frontdoor - brake of a panel on the unterside and this piece start to vibrate at higher speed (300km/h + ) - so the sound at full throttle was like a Ducati at full speed . Dont have video from this flyby´s

Resume: sound comes from the plane and the duct-situation

Regards, George

btw. in the video is my "GePo Blaster" with Jetfan120 on 12s at 100A.

I'm blessed - my famous fellow countryman (I'm born in Austria but living in Bavaria) joins the poll!

Been reading lot of your posts - so you have a lot of experience with different jetfan-EDF's from twin 80's to high-power 120's. Whats your favorite according sound?

BTW: do you have started a thread in a german network about your SU-35 with twin Jetfan 80's? Been searching for it but could only find one here (Freewing Su-35 with better sound and more POWER)

And the XRP 14 blade 90mm. Don't forget the TAFT 11 blade, it is whooshy yet more efficient than the 14 and 12 blade fans.

Your blessed?? - I´m shocked

WE ALL are edf junkies

The Su35 is not so popular in Europe ... so i only post on RCG.

My favorite jetfan sound at the moment is from an old Scorpio Gripen with the Jetfan80 on 6s.
But the wooosh sound come´s from sharp edges at the plane. The Jetfan´s and other higher bladed fans are so quiet, that we can heare the sound from the plane.

Here is the Gripen soundmachine:

Anton's rc- scorpio jas 39 gripen (3 min 49 sec)

Regards, George

btw: come to Salzburg edf Meeting at 17.-19.07.2015

...any tips how I can add additional EDF's to the Poll
(I've seen that this is possible in other Poll's but don't know how to do so?)

All Stumax blade profile immitators like the ChangeSun 12Blade(including RCLander one piece 12B rotor) are probably the best sounding in the 90mm size.

JetFan 120, CS120 12Blade and most mutiblade(>9) 120mm EDF sound impressive.

...well, that's in fact what I want to find out: single 90, twin 90 or single 120 EDF - and how does the power-setting affect the sound (low or high rpm for good sound)

The Venom REALY sounds good - do you know whether it has a low- or high-power configuration?

The CS fan on 6S in mine is perfect power and sound. I think a lot of the whoosh is generated by the less than optimal intakes and the cheater hole grates. Regardless the performance speaks for itself.

Our twin FW ME262 has similar whoosh sound from two 12 blade 70mm fans (sounds better than the same fans in an A10 with no cheater grates).

As others suggested, you may want to add Schubeler (up to you which one in their lineup that best matches your poll as well as other brands I'll mention), Stumax, XRP, Vasa, Freewing, EPF Mercury, JP Hobby, and RCLander.

I'm not even sure, as I've never editing a poll before. Is it under the edit, then "advanced" tab? If not, maybe a site moderator has to allow it for some reason.

It's more airframe + fan than fan alone. The best sound is a whooshy fan + a really crappy inlet.

It's a high amp (~100Amps) 6S setup.

As others have said.

The key to good sound, a very subjective matter, is

1. Dirty inlets (narrow with sharp edges like cheater grates so that air accelerates around them and whooshes)
2. Quiet EDF - a rotor that doesn't generate tip whine balanced very well so that motor whine is minimised.
