SA Screamer Extreme! Airframe Bash + 50mm@ 1800w, and 4.4lbs thrust

I've decided to go completely over the top with my new Screamer airframe. I'm changing it to a top, imbeded pod style airframe and adding a custom fan that willdo aprox 1kw on 6s and 1.5kw on 7s. I'll be adding some initial pictures soon, so log on if you are interested in seeing my insanity become reality.

Here are a few pics of the fan. The shroud/rotor are Hayoe 51mm parts. The motor will have to be mounted in standoff mode of course, but is only 1mm larger than the od of the motor tube so airflow through the fan will be good.

Putting the fan together.....my basic "large motor standoff " method. It hits 1500w on 7s (60a) without an intake ring. When I get a ring made, I'll check bench power and thrust numbers before installing it in the airframe.

I balanced the rotor assembly dynamically before installing it in the shroud. Then after assembly it only took a little clocking to get it back in balance.

I have to say, Yes, and me too. Hey, if it's not over powered, then it must be underpowered.😜

I loved the way my last Screamer flew at about 800w, but the motor was not up to the task. I shouldn't have that problem with this one. 1000w easily, and 1500w with some care.

3.5lbs Thrust at 1.4kw, how's that for an extreme 50mm?

Finally got around to doing a quick thrust measurement on 7s. Adapted an intake ring from a 70mm fan. This is with no thrust tube and just holding it over a good gram scale........at about 1400w, it blows 1600g against the scale. That's 3.5lbs of thrust. The batteries were freshly charged.

How about that? Measuring a 50mm in kilowatts.

Well the puppy just took a turn for the worse. 8s numbers......1800 w, 4.4lbs, 290mph efflux speed. Motor windings seem quite happy at this level. 150F.

Should make some airframe progress this weekend.

A little number crunching. The total weight of the power system, inc lipos is 1.9lbs. So I expect the AUW of the jet to be in the 2.5-2.75lb range. Don't think hand launching will be an issue. Sherlock would be pleased. Too bad he's gone to turbines. LOL

4.4lbs from a 50mm... I am speechless.
What batteries are you using for the 8s setup?

Hi Eric, I'm using a pair of 4s 2200 Nano A Spec 65c. They handle the 60a pretty well. Of course at 30c drain, that's a 2 min flight + power management time. But at this level it's going to be for one thing. High Speed passes.

Yeah, 2000g on the scale surprised the heck out of me too. I guess at 75k rpm (estimated ) good things start to happen in that little air pump.
