Need help on rewinding the Optima480
So someone on Rcgroups send me two free Optima480 a while back, they were burned though.
This is on the little tag that's on the side :
3010-910 Kv 250W
D:37 L:27 Shaft:4.00
does anyone have any idea on how to rewind them and what gauge wire i should get ?

Is that this motor here?
If so it should be s straight forward re-wind unless you find that the windings are heavily expoxy saturated or there is maybe some magnet damage (mechanical or from overheating) or some strange details as far as how the stator is mounted or the like.
You can take the magnet housings off to see how they look inside, the link above implies that it was wound with 13 turns and I think you'll find that that was done in a Delta terminated dLRK wind.
The winding would probably have been done with a bundle of finer strands of wire in parallel. If you can get a count on the number of strands in a bundle (each motor lead will be made with a pair of bundle ends) and measure the size of a strand (it will usually be about 0.25mm dia. wire) it will help you choose a wire size for the rewind.
In most cases we can use a single strand of wire that has a cross section surface area that is as much as or more than that of the original strand bundles. You can get the are info from here:
If the original wind was 10 strands of 31 AWG wire (0.227mm dia) the cross section area would be 10 x 0.0404mm2 or 0.404mm2. And a single strand of 21 AWG wire would give you a slight improvement on that at 0.41mm2.
The number of turns decides the Kv, so if you change the turn count you can change the Kv. If you have prop and battery in mind to use, you can adjust the Kv to best suit that prop as you rewind the motors.
Here is some help on getting the housing off and windings off. The second link has details on getting the stator off of the bearing tube for rewinding:

That motor probably has a 12 arm stator and 14 magnets inside the magnet housing, that would be called a 12N14P motor. There is a manual for assembling a 12N14P kit motor like that here here that will give you an idea as to how the winding process is done:
