2017 F3K WC Bid

So.. At the cajoling of Mike Seid while up in Utah at the Team Selection contest, I'm starting the process to submit a bid for the 2017 F3K World Championships for here in the USA. There's no reason other countries can't come over here once in a while.

I have a couple sites in mind that will blow people's minds and have sent inquiries to the coordinators for those sites already, and will also be talking to the AMA this week.

I'm fairly sure the window to submit is short, so I want to get on this ASAP. If anyone is interested in helping put the bid together, please send me a PM.

Thanks,

Doug

That is great news Doug! I think the flying field is the easy part, there are several great options. It is all the infrastructure required for a world class event that is most important. The AMA site has everything including staff and experience.

Good luck with the bid

I know Don Cleveland looked into it and had the AMA backing for the aero modeling center in Muncie. It would be very similar to Utah

I saw one of the furthest land outs ever. Oleg kept running and running. We lost site of him once. Needless to say it was pretty far out there

Doug, good luck with your quest. The AMA has all the information needed and also has most of the information, site motels, etc already put together if you want to use the AMA site. I would also suggest you contact Jim Deck with LSF for their support and additional manpower, etc.

I was actually hoping to use Triple Tree Aerodrome as the site. This is the home of the Joe Nall Fly-In. Pat Hartness' guys know something about hosting an event for large crowds. I've been told the AMA may push for Muncie but I think South Carolina might be a better destination for people from out of country.

Regardless, I'll be calling Colleen at AMA to get the ball rolling.

Very cool, Doug.

You are correct the window is somewhat short. Voting will happen at the CIAM meeting next spring.

Triple Tree would be a beautiful place (and close to me ) but Muncie would be much harder of a venue. Wide open flat field and no tree lines to pimp anywhere near. Either one would be great, I'd just be excited for them to be here!
