I'm not as bad a flyer as I was when I first got my hands on one so I figure I won't destroy it this time around
Just put all the stock equipment from the original airframe including all the carbon rienforcement and you will have a solid little flyer.

For more durability, i put 3m blenderm (3drankin sells this as well) tape on the ends of the leading edges of the main wing and on the nose to help to keep from cracking if you do crash. Especially on the nose, in my opinion its the weakest part of the airframe stock or 3drankin they both have fragile noses.

Make sure to also use a flexible glue, nothing that will be brittle when dry and this will also add a lot of strength.

Goodluck!

I just got my AS3Xtra - Holy wow! This thing is good!!! So much better than anything else I've flown in this sort of size.

Oh sweet you put a brushless motor in it, how hard was that to do?
can you give more info on how you did it or link to someone that told how to do it.

?

I researched it first. I had to remove the motor mount first and take out the motor. The BL inrunner I had to add material in order to get it to stay in the motor mount. Then glued the mount back on. I had to reverse the throttle curve and throttle cut on my dx9, other than that and a few mishaps it is now awesome. I use the 45c 150mah bats. I set the timer for 3 min, but I'm gonna push it up until 4 bc once the lvc kicks in, the motor goes full throttle and acts funny. Then you lose all control and it falls out of the sky.

You might look into 3Drankin's PNP brushless upgrade kit. I got the components from him to build one similar and am pleased with the results. It is on his blog a couple articles from the top. (I did do a direct to battery set up to get that little bit extra power.)
