The Big NOW WHAT

OK, there are several threads (getting confusing rolling through all of them) that debate the pros, cons, etc. of this drone (UAV) controversy and new "laws". So, my question is, and please keep it on topic, is What do or can we do NOW to make this disappear, or at least make it tolerable? Since Kim Jong Un has made up his mind already, surely there must be some way to kill this..?

About the only way to do anything about this is by lawsuit. Two problems with that

1) You need a really freaking good lawyer, which means a lot of money.

2) You need standing. The AMA might be able to sue for an injunction, but as an individual modeler you probably can't obtain standing unless they actually attempt to enforce the regulation. So you'd have to openly and notoriously fly your model somewhere that the ONLY violation is of the registration regs, and somehow get them to actually try to fine you for it.

You have to assuage the concerns of the Feds over the possible criminal misuse of the latest technology. Only then will the government that grants this privilege even consider returning to the past.

You have two Senators and a Congressman who are "supposed" to represent your interests in that which passes for government.

A polite and courteous communique that spells out what you think is wrong with this to include your concerns over this, in the various forms available (hard copy, phone, e-mail, in person) and repeated often will do more good than you imagine. What will really do good is if a couple of hundred thousand of these communiques arrive in DC each and every week until we get what we want.

And be sure to "courtesy copy" the FAA director, the aviation oversight committee (especially that jerk from N.J.) and in particular, the media. Every flipping newspaper and radio station that services the DC area as well as all your local ones. Let Talk radio know about it specifically sending letters and calls to Limbaugh, Hannity and the others.

And make sure you list all the cc: recipients on the letter. IOW, same letter, word for word and format that goes to your congressman goes to the media. And Joe Politician will see you are informing the media 'en mass and the pressure will begin to rise.

But this has to be done by many thousands of us each and every week. Otherwise, it simply will not work. I've used this tactic before on a more local level and it proves quite a powerful tool. It just has to be used.
