Align T-rex 100s/100x General Upgrades and Mods Topic

Well, Align has entered the small FP helis area with the 100s. Although Align made a nice looking heli, there is definitely room for improvement. The goal of this thread is to discuss upgrading and modding this heli.

Update: after the release of the 100s, Align improved a couple of things and called it the "X-version". Appears to be much more consistant than the S-version, but there are still things that can be done to make it a better heli.

I will contribute once I get around to it.
First off need spare blades lol

I plan on trying a new motor; and some of the Xtreme MSR upgrades perhaps.
Stay tuned.

I think a stronger motor is a must, stock it really lacks "punch". Looking forward to your experiments.

I wonder though is it the motor or the pcb? Meaning the brick may not be allowing for full potential of motor if you know what I mean.

Okay count me in. If you guys figure out how to get rid of the serious pendulum effect I would love to know.

If they market is as a Trex, you will expect "ferocious performance" right? If the board was the limiting factor, I would have expected some dual rates, so you could unlock the main motor's full power.

I think they used a tame motor to keep flight times up, I recall talk about "battery problems" before the heli's release, so perhaps flight times were too short with a stronger motor?

Hi,

You can test the performance of the Trex100`s motor, and find out what is the problem exactly by putting it in Solo Pro or by putting the Solo Pro`s rx on Trex100

I was thinking more of a tail holding issue with to much main rotor thrust.
I'll try the SP and MSR motor on it.

The tail hold is a big problem. Other then that seems ok. Anyone has any suggestions to fix this problem?

Some reported slightly better tail hold with a Solo Pro tail rotor.

Trex 100 in Canada?

Razor, where did you get yours! They're not at my lhs, or on Canadian websites? I only see them on us websites? Are these helis not allowed to be sold in Canada?

Sounds like align is doing some pretty weird things

Is this heli a big thumbs down?

You can order it from miraclemartrc

Im not sure id recommend it to be honest; it's real hit and miss

The MCPX or other to to released variants would be better

Found in a seperate thread about modding the Trex100:

After I finally snapped a flybar I decided it was time to try and mod. Viewed in front of a bright window it is obvious the very flexible flybar struggles to settle and the model is not very responsive to collective input. The paddles and thin arms were cut near the reinforced section of the hub and a section of carbon tail boom drilled at one end to open the bore up (1.7mm bore * 10mm deep at hub end, bore already OK for paddle shaft) and used to link the original hub and paddle, all fixed with super-glue. The bar is approx 10% shorter than stock. Test flight results are excellent, much improved response to collective input, and very stable hover even if you tap the copter. It is now a joy to fly, I think the original is just too flexible.

Other issues encountered along the way too get it flyable (the way it should out of the box);

1. Poor battery connections on skid - very erratic flight, warm contacts after flight are a giveaway - clean and adjust contacts, foam rubber block on skid to stop battery vibrating (and even falling out in flight).
2. Mixer arms on flybar should be loose enough to allow free vertical movement with no axial slop otherwise it will tend to cahse it's tail in a big loop.
3. Ensure tail motor is tight in it mount - vibrates badly if loose and causes tail to wander - easy fix with superglue.
4. Check height of rotor head on mount - mixer arms should be level with pin through flybar - adjust if requires.
5. Once you get stable hover and get sensible trims set adjust servo links until you no longer need electrical trim - seems to improve things all round.
6. Check that main motor drive wheel is tight on shaft after any crashes.
7. Use tape around inside back edge of a new canopy to reinforce it, the material is very brittle and prone to cracking (the tape is stronger!).

Hope this helps people with problems - it's a lot of fun to fly once adjusted
