My thrust is 1800 grams and weight 1050.

So Thrust/weight=1.67.....and could easily be 1.73

I haven't had a go-fast plane since I totaled my Stryker a while back and am now seriously looking at the new FJ Ultra as a replacement. I miss the Stryker, but also want to go faster!

I still have the two motors I purchased for the Stryker:

1) Medusa MR-028-040-2200 which is 28mm x 40mm 2200Kv

2) Mega ACn 16/25/2

I used the Medusa in the Stryker and it worked well. I never got to try the Mega.

Just wondering how each of these motors would do in the FJ Ultra or whether there is something better worth considering for the FJ Ultra? I'm interested in achieving 125-150mph. Also, how would a CC Ice 100 do? I had used a Phoenix 80 with the Medusa on the Stryker and was running 3S. I'm thinking about 4s or more for the FJ Ultra.

-inrunner motor
-medusa is out of business, so HET1w30, ARC 28.47.1.5 or 2
-5cell 2500-3000mah 35c setup. You could start with 4cells but 5cells...oof man this is the best choice. For me 6cells is an too much (hard landings, tough handlaunces)

my setup is:

ARC 28-47-1.5
5cell 2500Mah bionik battery
80 amps ESC, considering to upgrade to 100ICE
5.2x5.2 graupner
85 amps max
1050 grams total load
220 km/h top speed (no cheating)

Thanks, trying to find a setup for the Ultra FJ that can utilize a set of 4S 3200 batts and a Phoenix 80 ESC which I already own.

You can easily increase this figure by using a bigger diameter/ smaller pitch prop. Better acceleration, but less speed.

F3P (Indoor Aerobatics) models set-up for Freestyle can have thrust-to-weight ratios of 2:1 to 4:1.

aahh. You can try it but it will not give what u want. I used this size for the microjet (28.40.2800 i think)

I hope you are not going to step down in quality and power from MEGA 16/25/2 and run an ARC 28-47-X….and spend extra money doing it.

Maybe there are misunderstandings going on here by me, you, or others.


Be 100% clear on this, the MEGA will handle more power and stay together.


The KV is different so you will just run different size prop to fly at same speed as ARC.....or increase prop size and leave the ARC in your dust.

While ARC is falling behind it will either sizzle and let out smoke or puke its guts out of the end cap coming lose or bend its shaft much easier in comparison during landing.

Want max out of your MEGA; run it on 5S


Your 100A ESC is perfect match in every way for your motor.

I am a recent owner of arc and i am very pleased so far. I posted my setup and uploaded a vid with the performance. You claim that mega is supirior and of course i can not doupht about this cause i havent used mega. Could you infom us about the max watt it can handle and which prop you use with mega 16-25-2 ? Any video prooving performance?I have seen the motor properties and manufacturer suggests max amps 35 for 15 secs.

I've got a couple of Mega 16/15/3 motors and they have an advised max of 30A. I regularly run mine at 40-48A with no ill effects, but they are very well cooled. I don't doubt Gryphon's claims as they really are great motors.
