Heat...if you use a higher voltage the regulator will create more wasted heat energy. If you leave the transmitter on for a long period of time and live in a hot place there is more chance of damage than using it for short periods of time in freezing conditions. But it is only a chance thing...no guarantees that it will blow today, tomorrow or ever. You might be lucky or maybe this particular transmitter manages to keep cool enough at all times. What you have to decide now is whether you continue doing what you've done for the past year or not. I suppose the question you need to ask is "how would I feel if if blows next week and I crash or injure someone?" BTW, in Alan's post above he links to a very simple method of reducing the voltage of a 3s lipo using a couple of 1N4001 diodes. As these devices reduce the voltage they will get warm but should not fail under normal circumstances. |
