That was not my point.... my point was that building a scale helicopter is not just
"assembling parts and tuning"....

I am building both now for over 30 years, and after my first self-built scale heli (Vario kit), planes have never been really interesting anymore.

I think you guys are both committing on this quote and not each other
I was confused at first when reading both your post

Yep... ain't got no beef with CopterKid, not looking for one either

Only the first two sentences though.... I don't know any Pedro Sanchez, don't know what Top Gun means other than that mediocre Tom Cruise vehicle, and don't care for planes too much....

Why sorry? Just a normal exchange of thoughts does not need an apology?

LOL......no problem. My first heli many moons ago was a Benzin Trainer....I know...it was a gift from my late parents......took me months be for I ever started building it much less tried to fly it. No body in my area flew anything...so i was kinda on my own......did finally get brave enough to practice hovering....and was hooked on helis ever since.
I truly enjoy scale.....and have built several Vario birds for folks. Have been out of the hobby for years and just now getting back in since I've retired from Airevac EMS here in MO.

Some might say a T500 is the largest practical size heli for indoor flying. But what if the scale fuselage selection available for that size is not to your liking? Well, get one you like in the size you want, grab each end of that T500 and pull really, really hard. Break out the staple gun and duct tape and install Now you have a nice indoor-ish T500, but with a fuselage that is acceptable. It's still a T500, right?

Anyway, some indoor vid of my T500 stretched into a Funkey .30 size JetRanger fuselage. Running 550mm blades. Some footage of Hobbyking's YEP esc startup in there for reference. I gotta say, after playing with it some, this has gotta be the best esc deal out there if you are looking for one with a great stand-alone governer. Much better than CC's gov (use "gov store" and turn off the 'freewheel' for best results), and it comes with a beefy BEC on board also. Price is ridiculously low. It helps that it is a direct copy of a YGE esc too, lol.

Anyway, set your alarm clocks...and onto the show:

Very nice SidewaysLS4, looking good and very smooth.. When I was working for HK a few months ago I got to play with the YEP and I was very pleased with it, should have picked myself one up at the time!

Yes your right, 500 is the largest practical size heli for indoor flying Lol

I will say no one else was at home when I tried this, so the only person at any risk was myself and as I built-it I had confidence in my building abilities.. However saying this I probably wouldn't do it again... And if my other half knew she would have hit the roof! Lol

Now a 600 that would be interesting! Lol

Here are a few pics of my finished stretched T450 to T500 EC-145 Life Flight heli.

It is a clone T450 belt drive stretched to a 500 in an old gen. 1 SM/TF 500 size EC-145 fuselage.

The airframe as I said is a modified T450 clone with a delrin cnc cut main gear, Scorpion HK-2221-10 (3000Kv) motor ( thanks to SidewaysLS4 ) , a Turnigy dlux 55A ESC , highly modified CopterX ridgid 4-bladed head , Carbon Hobby 425mm main blades , cut down (80mm) mCPX main blades on the tail , HD-1810MG servos ( cyclic ) , and HD-3688HB (tail) , and a Tarot ZYX FBL unit.

She runs a HS of 1540 with my Blade 400 tail speed up mod which give me a 1:5 tail ratio , this gives her plenty of tail authority along with the cut down 80mm mCPX mains on the tail.

Her AUW with two 4000mah 3s packs on board ( for correct CG only , it runs on 1 pack at a time ) is right at 5.75 lbs and she flies for 8:30 - 9:15 minutes per pack and like a dream too.

Enjoy the pics and feel free to comment or ask any questions you might have about it.
