Hi Guys:

Haven't posted anything for a time so I decided to put up my Lazy bee 40".

I finished it about a month ago built from plans I downloaded. Pretty much as Clancy designed it except I added ailerons to the 40" wing , didn't want to use the 48" aileron wing.

Anyway we will see how she flys in a couple of months, too much snow right now here in Wiscosin.

Here's my three engine version of Eric Clutton's SharkFace. Originally it flew with three TD .010s and it sounded pretty cool - if the pilot could concentrate on anything but steering it.

This summer I replaced the center .010 with an .020. All I can (humbly) say is that in a race limited to .049 and below displacement - this bird would kick . . . er, that is, acquit itself well.

That is a Great Planes C/G tool Really useful and takes very little space.

That's asking a lot from the Norvel to carry all that weight around, you would better of with an Enya 09 or something that doesn't mind a larger prop.

Agreed it is a lot of weight for the Norvel but I was thinking the light wing loading might make it suitable. I have a TT .10, how would you feel about it ?

The Norvel will most likely fly it, but an engine running at full bore (+ 17000rpm) for level flight is not going to make for a very relaxing flight. The TT10 on the other hand would take a 7x4-8x3 and might also balance the plane without the lead (the total weight would increase though).

If it is ready to fly now, then try it with the Norvel, but I think the engine is more happy on an APC 6.3x4 prop, and it fits nicely in something faster.

Thanks Surfer, I think I will do as you suggest and try the Norvel. I remember in about 1999, I had one of the early Norvel .061's in one of the original (48") Herr Cubs and it flew pretty well, can't remember the AUW but most of the Herr's are a little heavy.

I have a Cox Medalion .049 on it. Been having problems trimming it for the power pattern. With the some what small rudder and having the rudder forward of the stab it wants to dutch roll.

I love the Tres Face, Raymond. That's a serious collection of Cox TD hardware up front! I can't imagine all the drama of starting, tuning, fuel-topping, flying, joking, and laughing-til-it-hurts that must accompany each flight. Smart move putting the longer-running(hopefully) engine in the middle. I bet it sounds great in the air.

Given that the Norvel engine isn't that heavy. What did you build it out of?

Hi Bare:

Nothing special in construction that would account for the extra weight, balsa is not contest grade but I did go thru my inventory and hand selected best quality/grain. Used thick CA mostly and some thin of course. Covering is standard UltraCote.

I am amazed when I see some builds and the reported weights, suprised they don't have to have anchors to keep them from floating away.

Anyway, I took Surfer's advice and put my TT .10 in it and after removing the lead needed to CG with the Norvel I am within 1/2 ounce of the Norvel installation.
