Question
Thrust line on Bud Nosen Cub

I purchased a Bud Nosen J3 Cub at an auction without an engine. I plan to install a Zenoah 26e but need to know where the thrust line is. Will it make a difference if the engine is mounted a little above or below the line?

Also, can someone tell me where the CG balance point is.

Thanks,

Kman

I have the quarter scale Bud Nosen J3 (1980's vintage kit), that is 90% complete. Here is what the plans list..

Engine - 3 Degrees down, 2 Degrees right

CG is 5 1/4" from the leading edge

I am using a OS 90 2 stroke...

Hope that helps...

Thanks for the info. Do the plans indicate where the thrust line is? This should be where I line up the prop shaft. There are two lins drawn on my firewall, one about the middle and one toward the top. I assume one of these is the thrust line but I don't know which. How far up from the bottom of the fire wall do the plans show to mount the engine? I really thank you for your help.

edave41, thanks for the pics of the plans. I think your plans are for a plane smaller than the quarter scale Cub I am working on, but I can scale things up and get very close. This information helps a lot. Thanks for taking the time to send the pics.

KMan..

I apologize your comment that it may not be a quarter scale plane caught my attention..

Well I can tell you.. the first 25 Percent of the Bud Nosen Cub and Senior Telemaster blueprint look nearly the same.

The centerline is 5.25" from the bottom of the firewall plywood. The CG is 4 5/8 from the leading edge.

2nd time is a charm..

edave41,

Yes, this plan looks more like my plane. Sometimes it's easy to confuse plans for big planes.

Thanks for taking the time to photo the plan, this answers my questions.

1/4 scale Bud Nosen Cub

Can I get a copy of the plans for this kit. I just crashed my 30 year old model and would like to rebuild it..
