Lovely job! Does it have an upright fin? Do you think it needs one? Why not?

I haven't posted here in a while; prob not since the last time I worked on this big 7 foot bird... But, alas! ...she will fly very soon. Just need a few finishing touches like the beak and eyes perhaps. Ill do my best to get a maiden flight vid within the next few weeks, weather permitting
Cheers!

UP UP AND AWAY!!! I finally maidened this big bird... and it flew awesome! I have the CG about 4 inches back from the LE and needed no elev. trim.

I caught a nasty crosswind immediately after a beautiful take-off. It took a minute to get control back but after that is was like buttahhh. Barely had to give it any input.

Enjoy!

I will put a temporary vertical stab on it for initial testing, then work on ways to reduce and eliminate it. I might experiment with putting a small rudder vane in the thrust stream for thrust vectoring yaw control. The all-in-one board has the Horizon Hobby 'AS3X' (3 axis gyro) which might help out for yaw. No way to adjust the gains though, unless someone out there has hacked it.

Should be interesting to try at least.

Here is a full kevlar, carbon and glass fiber eagle made from my extraordinary competent buddy Mickey while I am in charge of loading it with electronics...

A mixed soup from famous and successful individual ingredients (main wing like eddie the eagle's, tail wing like the epp eagle, etc...), and some extra custom features were added (the tail is neither a full vtail nor a flat tail, but something in between, the wingtips are made of a special composite material) and eventually decided to go for a very expensive full composite material bird, for the sake of solidity and payload.

Very expensive because of the choosen materials, and the necessary time for building the tubeless wings, the wingtips, etc...

Aiming at solidity first, naked body weighs 3.5 pounds.
Full weight including electronics should be under 5 pounds, allowing an extra 2 to 3 pounds of payload.

Because it may turn into a business depending on our ability to find investors (and rich customers ) , I cannot give too many build details, but I do think I owe most of everything I know about birds to this forum and its members (including the authors of Eddie the Eagle, the EPP eagle, BlueFalcon, etc...) so I thought I should post some pics along our progresses.

We will hopefully make a maiden flight within 2 weeks, weather permitting.

That's pretty awesome, Phil! I would like to see the top and other detailed pictures if possible. But if it violates your business, I understand if you can't.

Tresbling, I'm happy for your success! I hope it's a floater...looks great *
