Aveox F10 in a Falcon

I am in need of a little help...I am bring back to life my OLD Heinrich Falcon. It still had mounted an Avveox F10 motor (and a 260 ESC!) I do think I would like to keep this motor, but I will replace the ESC with something new!

As I recall I used to pull 100 amps or so on 10 Cells for (probably 9 or 9.5 volts at load) with a 14X9.5 prop and this little plane was FUN!

So since everything is now Lipos what prop should I start with on a 3S pack???

I would like ot keep the pitch up so I can get some speed out of this old plane....maybe 12 X 10 or 12 X13???

Any old guys out there still remember the spec for this motor?...Ideas???

Avd,
I have an Aveox F10 in a Simprop "Lift Off". It was originally flown on 7 nicads with a 15x15 prop and a 90a esc.
Hope that info helps,
Martin.

I don't think that these motors take much abuse compared with modern motors - the magnets will loose magnetism at lower temperatures (I killed/demag'd a F16LMR by running more cells with a smaller prop). I think the F10 was based on the 1406/1Y motor with the 6.7:1 (or was it 5.2:1) gearbox fitted. I think that running the motor at more than 60A might cause a short life, plus I don't know if the rotors are wrapped to stop magnets coming loose at higher rpm. Therefore, I think that something round 12" diameter sounds about right on 3S

Those motors mostly had 3.7 ratios---the needle bearings and higher ratios came along later.

Forgot about the old 3.7 gearboxes :-)

Wow, memories,
Just dug up my original Aveox F-27 F5b motor of some 14 years ago complete with Hall sensor leads.
The label says: 18-28 cells, 12000 rpm max with 3.7:1 gearbox, 80 amps peak, Kv 1410 rpm/v.

I mean't to add that the current F5b's are talking around 7500 watts compared to around 2500 watts then. That's real progress.

My Aveox F10Comp is rated for 100A on 7-10 cells ( nickels).

If I remember correctly, the F7 was the 1406/1y, the F10 the 1406/2y, the F12 the 1409/2y and the F16 was the 1412/2y

I've still got a few laying around too .. I wonder whats needed to do to get a Castle ESC to play nice with them ?

I think that a 2s setup would work best. 3s and a small prop is going to mean much more rpm and the planet gears are going to weld themselves to the posts in the gearbox...aaah! the good old days!

Any modern sensorless controller will drive them just fine. You can remove the little circular PCB from inside the backplate to clean it up a bit.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but do you guys think a 3S LifePo battery would be better as an alternative to to using a 3S LiPo with an Aveox F10 ?

I am hoping that it will be a viable option as I have got hold of a Simprop Lift-Off (1935mm) which is brand new and is fitted with an F10 and 120amp ESC, not sure of prop size yet as I have to collect it still
