I am running my LED's off the same ballance plug to a stand alone low bat alarm ($3 from ebay). Pretty low tech, I just made a small loop - the size of the molex pins on the alarm. since my LED's are nominally 12v and I use 3s battery, I put the looped ends ( watching for polarity lest I let out the LED magic smoke) on the 1st and 4th pins then slide the balance plug on. - works great.
Grandsons are happy because the first question always is - does it have lights?
