Hi

Please can someone tell me what diameter carbon tube was used on the Premier vector thrust unit 1st Generation to construct the frame ?.

And what the weight of the entire power unit is excluding the battery ?

My scratch unit seems a little heavy or so i think.

i have the manual but it doesn't seem to give the weight or anything about the tube diameter.

What did you use for the gimbal ring? Looks very professional.

BTW: You may want to consider adding servo saver springs to each of your pushrods; even with a prop saver, a prop strike can strip the gears on a servo. Metal gears help also. Don't ask me how I know!

You wont believe it.... its a chromed plastic curtain ring , its about 3 grams and 55mm or about 2 inch diameter and as hard as hell.


I almost went to an engineer to have some aluminium rings made.

A Premier Gen I frame without battery weight is 250 grams (approx)
(I have a Turnigy switch fitted and a bit a extra wiring for LED lights on the Canard)

Frame is made from 5.5mm Exel RCF carbon



Very nice unit you have made, is that a Premier motor? and what method did you use for joining the carbon ?

My VT unit is constructed from 6mm cf tube and weighs 189 grams. I'm pretty happy with that.

The frame is tacked with ca , I then used about 10 strands of polyester sewing cotton and wrapped the joint .give it a quick burn with a cigarette lighter to get rid of the fuzz, the soak joint with ca.

The motor is a 24 gram hextronic motor 1300 kv it will pull about 700 grams.

Geoff. Check this and see if you can use it. Try a 2" black plastic pipe coupler made for plumbing pipe. I looked at them in Home Depot the other day. You will need to cut it.

Thanks nocg, I have begun to make one as you suggest only using a white PVC fitting.

In fact, I'm anxious to get it far enough along to take pix & share with everyone! I'm feeling like it will be a good one, but lest anyone thinks I'm getting "cocky", it will be obvious that the majority of my ideas came from all of you plus some other websites including S.P.A.D.

A pipe coupler is a pipe coupler. The only difference is the color. I will be interested in seeing and reading about your progress.

Been a while but I'm happy to tell you, per your suggestion, I checked out the black fittings. Turns out they are ABS while the white is PVC. The ABS seems a little lighter & I found one I think will be ideal for my purposes. So, THANKS for the suggestion! So far about all I've done is "thinking" about my project, will update when I actually accomplish something LOL!
