Cost of Afghanistan War? = $1,000,000 Per Soldier Per Year

Seems it is costing the US a cool million bucks per year for each Soldier deployed per year in Afghanistan.

Wonder what each fighter costs the Taliban?

With the current level of taxation the Taliban gets from heroin production labs, each fighter probably brings in cash.

Why would anyone think that? The only time opium production was drastically reduced was when they were in power.

That the Taliban are profiting from the war while we are paying through the nose. That was the point of the OP, wasn't it?

They are businessmen and will have almost total control of the supply side. They will make ever effort to assure production and demand don't get out of sync and drive price below an acceptable level.
The country has only three major available exports:

Pretty rocks. (limited)
Mass casualty events (dangerous backlash)
Opium (very lucrative)

Unless they strike oil or build a Disney Land it looks like they will be exporting opium for quite some time.

Positive. Prices and production are down now because of earlier excessive production. Simple supply and demand. The only drastic reduction in production due to other than market forces was in 2000-2001, when the Taliban outlawed it's production.
