I've burned a HS1177 cam, please help me !

Hi every one,

i've simple burned my new HS1177 cam ( 5-22V) , after a really good FPV session, i come back to home and connected my quad on USB without propeller to calibrate again my ESC and change a little my PID, i've connected my lipo 4S ( fully charged ) and i've try some armed disarmed to check motors and when i play with throttle little burst ( 50%) white smoke just came off the HS1177 body ....

Inside there is a component that is fry , it's a 511Q1 AZ00 like a little step down with 3 pins each side, the middle one of one side is burned ...

My setup was 4S lipo to a PDB, and the cam was directly powered from the lipo 16,8V

Edit : when throttle acceleration during flight, there was some line on the image, more throttle % was = to more noise on the image so i wanted to try powered from the pololu 5V step down that i have oh the quad.

someone can tell me what have gone wrong ?

good news and bad news!

bad news: it sounds like the camera is dead. even if you replace the regulator there is no guarantee that something else is bad or will fail at a later time.

good news: the hs1177 is on sale today for $30 so replacing it won't be as expensive!

Hard to tell what happened. To the lines in the image, you need an LC Filter between the battery and the cam to filter all the noise out that are caused by the ESC's, motors, etc.

if your vtx has a 5v output, try powering the camera with that.

I've tried that first, but the vtx output is more 4V than 5v so the camera was not correctly powered

Had the same thing happen to my HS1177 powering directly from 4S. Looks like the same component fried, 6 pin regulator, but it was labeled 437P3 AZ00.

Worked fine one day, then was dead the next. I've sent a message to Surveilzone. We'll see what they say.

I plan on using a 12V pololu for both camera and vtx from now on.

Two guys on the Alien thread have got exactly the same problem.

I've contacted surveillzone, they will try to improve this regulator on the hs1177 because it is very sensible.

They send me a new one for free

Same issue happened to me just now. On my bench, testing vTx range issue I've been having, arming and disarming while checking my goggles, the HS1177 wired directly to Alien PDB, then poof. Magic smoke released.

Super bummed out. First I have crap range on the new Alien frame, now I'm unable to fly at all

Looks like the voltage regulator in this cam sucks. I ordered this cam a few days ago. No way I mount this cam in my copter. I will shelf it when it has arrived.

I sent a message to SZ through their web site but haven't heard anything back yet.

Did you contact them through the user area, or send them an email?
thanks

Anyone know the spec for this component? I assume the first number is some sort of batch or manufacturer identifier but don't get any hits on AZ00 regulator at DigiKey but I'm no electronics expert. Looks like it might be a DC converter, maybe getting closer. Just hate to loose a $36 buck camera over a part that costs a few cents. Yes other things could be damaged, but worth a shot for a buck or two unless Surveilzone wants to honor an exchange for two cameras purchased through one of their re-sellers.
