Great job Aidan , protect it , make a secure case for it . There will be other boats , but 40 years from now , you will open that box and be happy to see a well kept bundle of memories of you and your dad .

OBW is correct about being sure to preserve it. When I was your age I built a similar boat, it was a dory, and I am 80 now and still building boat models but I would give anything to still have that first model.
keep on building and the various skills you learn will be of great value in many ways throughout your life.

That's me too about sixty years ago. My first model was a Stromburg sailboat that a friend brought over one rainy Sunday in New England. We worked on the boat all afternoon and I was totally hooked on building models that day. Getting Aidan involved in this hobby might just be the best thing you ever do for him.
