Rich, Question about assembling the gauges, When gluing the plastic gage glass to the paper gauge with med CA, do I put the dot of CA directly on the gage over the printing and then press the glass to it?

Want to make sure I have the process right and that the CA won't smear the ink on the paper and/or yellow, crack or craze the plastic.

1,020 hours since 10/12? that is a full time job and a half+!

re: CA and gauges, I'm not sure what Frankg recommends but I would avoid this approach. Often CA "smokes" (fogs) clear plastic/glass- not good- I use Pacer "canopy glue" around clear plastics with good results-

I put the paper gage face up on a piece of waxed paper, place a drop of medium CA on the center of the gage, then place the plastic on top of it. Do not use accelerator and leave the glue cure completely, then cut and trim gage to fit in snug in the bezel.

TITO- I had to go back and read the post again. Really, 1020 hours so far. Holy Cow I hope you leave that model to some one in your will. By the way, she is coming out great.

Little typo there, got crazy with the zeros, 120 hrs.

120, that's more like it! 'course, depending on how you measure shop time, 1,020 is possible... 120hrs of labor, 900 hours of sitting at the bench day dreaming, making motorboat noises, etc. - it has been known to happen.

Frankg, no fogging from the CA? what's the secret? I've not had any luck with CA and transparent plastic.

I've had the same experience with CA and clear plastic. Maybe because its on white paper it's no so obvious? I've used the canopy glue as well, it's better, but takes awhile to dry.

A quick question as I layout the waterline; The 3 27/32" measurement at the bow, do you measure perpendicularly down from the bow as in pic 1 or on an angle as in pic 2?

the difference is about 3/16". I wan to make sure I get it in the right place.

Wow, I was sitting here counting fingers, and though I'm semi-retired, wasn't sure I could commit thousands of hours to a mahogany build!
I've only been married for 5 years this time, and I can get away with hundreds of hours, but thousands would be pushing it!
