You're not going to believe what I have my hot little hands on right now.

It's a PZ Micro, called the "Ghetto-Bird 5000"

OK...seriously...this started as a goof this week, and accidentally started shaping up like it may actually get airborn. I used a full size P-51 h-stab as the main wing..it was broken, but I fixed it up, Champ brick, and motor, and bamboo kebab skewer for the tail, and a styrofoam plate for the stabilizers & elevator. The rocker arm for the ailerons is my old Lowe's employee card...and the motor mount is a cavalry base from Warhammer 40k, with extra support under it being my old health insurance card.

The elevator works fine, and the ailerons are smooth...but the move to like 45 degrees each way...so I'm thinking unless I control it with mouse-fart movements...I'm going to have a spiraling lawn dart. Depending on how bad the first flight is, I may have to sacrifice another styrofoam plte to make new ailerons with limited throw.

The weight...exactly 1.2 ounces. I was going to maiden it this evening, but we're experiencing a little storm...so maybe Sunday.

Is this thing not hiddeously offensive?

Are you saying that you have to much aileron throw? Can you just reduce the throw on your transmitter

That's a huge amount of right thrust, huge ailerons too and no dihedral.....grab a beer or two after Christmas dinner and enjoy lol
It's not offensive, it's unique and that's cool anywhere and any time
If you can introduce a little dihedral, reduce those throws (on radio ?) and straighten up the right thrust a little, I think you'll have a great sight in the air.

Yeah...my prop shaft angle is a bit too far over...easier to see in the pics. I'll fix that...but the rest of it...aw...c'mon...I gotta see what it does before I change it!

I'm using a Champ TX...low rates do nothing to limit the ailerons...this is gonna be epic.

When in doubt launch straight up throwing as hard as you can. On little stuff like this it will buy you enough time to figure out what's going on. Also gives you time to kill the throttle if need be.

if you want to lessen the aileron throws, make another hole for the rod from the aileron servo thats closer to the outside of the horn. that will mechanically reduce the aileron travel. you may find that with this wing, it will want to fly slightly nose up, if it does, you should add a little incidence to the wing (raise the front up a little)

Thanks...I'm not expecting much...hard to be disappointed that way...lol.

Hogpen , on maiden I wouldn't let go of the sticks to trim er out , get a buddy to launch it and let him work the trim tabs while you white knuckle the sticks (lol

Although the weight is the same as the Champ...it feels too heavy. I'm gonna place the battery toward the aft side of the underwing surface to shift it bac a bit, and see how that goes. Oh...and I need time for the glue to cure on the high-tech motor mount I have going here...but that was the only casualty.

...for now...

I was suspecting the lifting surface of the main wing isn't great enough...after this first attempt, I'm thinking that still be the case.

Throw a little up elevator in for the launch. Could that be the case ?

Gonna try that for this next attempt...coming very soon...

Balancing the CG is vital. Lifing the LE of the wing a small amount may help.

Keep tweaking it until it flies the way you want!
