Question
"It tastes like burning"

In my RC10 truck I have a 6 cell pack that is 4500 mAh.

I charge it using my Super Brain 959 charger.

I have done this twice with odd results:

At 3.0 the charger got BLAZING hot and the display went BLACK.

It recovered when it cooled down.

At 2.0 the charger got BLAZING hot but the display darkened but was still readable.

What the hell am I doing wrong?

The 959 can charge at rates of 1.5 / 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.0 / 3.5 / 4.0 / 4.5

I just found this:

http://www.airsplat.com/Items/AC-BC-MRC-RB959.htm

Maybe this can shed some light on it?

Said it was tested with 3000mah and below, are you sure it can handle 4500? When i looking for a new charger i noticed some were not rated for the larger packs. just a thought

I'm not sure I can't find MRC's website.

Found it. But it doesn't say what the limit of mAh the charger can handle.

MRC's have got to be one of the worst chargers out there... Search some of the other forums....

After reading the instrutions it looks like it straining to charge the pack over heating which cause the disply to go black. I use a robitronic overloader and can charge at 9 amps if i like with a car battery and 7 amps with a 12v power supply with np. i charge 7/8 batterys one after another and it on for 5 hours constant. Do a bit more research but i say you got no hope getting your 4500 done if it overheating at 2 amps

i raced electric cars then bikes and the better the charger the better off you are on race day

I try to stay away from anything with a tamiya conector fitted as standered as they can't take the amps and melt.

The mAh shouldn't have any effect on the charger. The higher mAh means it will just take longer to "fill" the pack.

FWIW butters, one of my MRC 969 chargers just went off for repairs for the second (or third) time. It got hot and smelled a bit and quit while charging a 7.4v pack, and now only gives an error message on that channel. Unless maybe there is some internal damage to your pack affecting things (was the battery pack getting hot also?), I'd guess that it's some malfunction inside the charger itself. I haven't been impressed with MRC, other than I can charge two packs at once. But the downtime from these chargers hasn't been worth it.
