Silhouette-RG14 Slope Glider

This is the start of making my version of the Douglas Aircraft "Silhouette" slope glider.

I will use all the good stuff I have learned from Adam at Wyowindworks , kpeevyhouse , and the Deluxe Mold Kit I had got from www.cstsales.com , whilst I was creating my version of the Quicksilver the Quicksilver-RG14.

Making a plug and mold is very hard work. I been putting off for over a year now

'ere we go ...

and da pics!

How come you don't just "splash" the original fiberglass fuse to make a mold off of it? If you paint it, wax it up good, you could use it as a plug. Maybe you are changing the shape a bit?

Exactly what I was going to ask. Why not finish the existing fuse with a glossy finish, and use it for a plug?

One Solid Klunker

Hi guys,

I like very much the smoothy pointy shape I got on the Quicksilver-RG14 and the wing saddle will be made to fit an RG14 airfoil.

And mostly, its way fun to "shoeshine" a stick into something nice Very satisftying.

It looked to be a lot of work to dial in the original fuse and hatch for parting.

I was thinking I would have to back the hatch and saddle "holes" with balsa and fill them in ect. before dropping in the parting board.

Do I not need to make it one solid "klunker" before casting a mold?

Appreciate your thoughts. Imma still gotta lot to learn

Does Adam still have an active website? I tried to look it up and couldn't find anything. I know he was working on a DVD for molding and wing bagging, did that ever happen?

Been waiting for that...

Watching the great progress here -- and learning...

Tom,
Awesome, more power to you! Having carved a few plugs in the past myself, I appreciate your approach and craft in starting from a drawing and going all the way to making it fly!

Go Tom Go!

+1 for 'splashing' the original fuselage

The line for a newly laid-up fuse is forming right behind me

Hi Chip!

Well I just dug in and made the parting board today. I don't figure to take off too much from the fuse centers. It was easier to trace the shape while it was still pretty square and I could get the edges to the board. It needs to be cut big anyway.

let's get 'er done!

Thanks for kicking me into gear Dave

I started shaping the plug.

I had some delamination happening so after a bit I dropped in som Thin CA and clamped her up.

I am building a lite weight Quicksilver at the same time.

I will shoot for getting in some time on this again this weekend

Limping Along

Sorry I be so snail like on this build log.

I cut the rails for the bottom of the shadow board today.

This will be a slow moving thread as my work has gotten more demanding.

But we hanginf in there!

Sheesh!
