OK... First flights are done!! here's some notes..
Overall she flies quite well. it seems too nose heavy with a 22003s, so i'm going to get myself some 13003s and see what that's like. my mods probably added about 30grams (ish), so with light mods it might be better. one thing for sure is i am sooo glad i didnt go with stock throws, cause it would not have flown very well at all. the glide ration is a little short on what i would like, but again, i think with a smaller battery and probably pushed back to the rear of the battery slot i will get a better balance leading to longer glide ratio.
she aileron rolls quite well, but i expected that, because with my mods the ailerons have 100% movement up and down.
rudder (unmodified) was pretty useless under glide, not so bad under power.
elevator was great (full movement by minor mod)

engine works a treat. i replaced the original blades (which i broke accidentally) with 12*6 blades and this thing all but pulls vertical. in fact she climbs unusually steeply when on full power. you can trim this out but then you need to re-trim for glide, so i just climbed with a little down on the elevator stick. so i think the power system is on the money. after 4 flights with a 3s, 2200 i still had each cell reading at 3.8, so there was oodles of battery life left.
i get the feeling this one will slope fly really well.
Thermals? well it was a pretty horrible weather day this morning. it was raining on and off and the clouds were very thick so i couldnt get any thermal action. i think it will thermal well, but i'll need to lighten the load a bit first and make a minor cg adjustment.
all in all I am very happy with the flight characteristics BUT, be warned, if you dont do the mods, this thing will fly like a wheel barrow and will not respond to surfaces sufficiently.

Kerry, i've seen those airbrakes at HK and i think they would make a great mod. they are very light weight and you can service sufficiently with a 5g or 9g servo.

She comes in fairly gently on approach, but because the glide ratio was short, i didnt use the flaps i had set up. she lands like an absolute dream and the front and rear wheels are just perfect.

So thats the good news !!

The even better news is the forecast for tomorrow looks good. the sun will be out, hopefully the wind will stay decent and fingers crossed i can find a little thermal action!

At least i now know that the mods are worth it!!

cheers
pete

I SEE what you are saying about the LACK of Surface throws !

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING ???

Well last PM and this AM I got my bird ready to go !

What mods I've done to date:

1.
I put a piece of tape across the Bottom of the canopy at the rear
to assist in it's REMOVAL ! Yeah it sticks out a bit but it's clear tape :-(

2.
I drilled a very small "WIRE SIZED" hole in the Elevator horn.
Removed the unused part of the horn and
Dug out a bit of foam from the rear horn clearance crack.
Throw is plenty now. see below

3.
Changed out the Rudder servo Horn for one I had left over from some old servo.
God knows which one its from.
Throw is still not STELLAR, but, it'll be OK.
A longer servo horn would not help at it appears that the
embedded Wiggle Hinge is MAXED out !

4.
I used a 6 channel Spektrum RX so I could do aileron Reflex ( up ) as well as
Aileron Down - aka flaps.
It works perfect using the 3 position Flap Switch !
I suppose I could alternately do a Throttle Mix for that function with a
smoother transition between reflex and Flap.

I have been flying an old 2M Gerassis Fox with Aero Tow Since 2004 !
Yes ! it has survived that long :-)
It has throws similar to what I am getting on this foam FOX with my minor mods.

Rudder was never used much on the 2m Glass Fox
but it didnt take much throw at the speeds that it flys.
We will have to wait and see how the Foam Fox reacts.

Aileron throws could be better but this is a Very Light bird
especially compared to my 2M Jurasic Fox.
Throws are fairly equivalent on both now.

I used the TX programming to JACK UP all the throws to 150% + and -

If I get a Window this PM I will go test fly it and report back.

Between NOW and then I also plan to add some judicious and strategically placed Packing Tape
to the LE's and wear areas.
Also I'll add some Thicker tape to the Skid points.

Finally since I didnt get any DECALS other than what is on the Fuse.
I'll make up some Wing Ident Numbers and visibility additions.

Here are a few pix of my Ready to fly Fox.

I've used Colored Packing tape to wrap the Nose.
BTW Packing tape is Heat Shrinkable to a degree ( no pun :-)

Use very low temp settings and experiment and be patient.

These are all proven "Treatments" that I used on my Cularis as well as
Easy Glider Pro and similar EPP planes.

What we NEED is a good method of Quick ON/OFF of the H-Stab !
That way we can use the Shipping Box for Transport and Protection.

The weather, here in the North West is NOT cooperating today !

Maybe tomorrow for flights.

good to see another getting ready! i flew mine again this morning. even had some thermal action (although very small and light thermal, so not a great deal of lift. i havent got smaller batteries so instead i shifted the 2200 to the rear of the bay and it improved the balance a great deal. longer glide ratio for what is a very minor difference in position of weight.

Pete,

Can you attach a video?

Thanks for the help in getting the engine out.

Before I register on RC Groups I put some comments on the site of HK.

One of the problems that I have to solve is with the aileron on the left wing which has only 30% of downward movement. I need to buy a hinge like that comes with that wing. Does anyone know where I can acquire it.
