Why the fake smoke?
i Know it flipped (or you wrong sticked it !!!) .
But why add the smoke ? is it dramatic value ?
Oh i remember , its the Oscars soon , your going for special effect award .
Well using an old Thunderbirds effect wont win anything hahahah.
Sorry for your loss , new Esc , and motor and arm it will be fine im sure .

I really enjoy the creative process of editing and FX! –Specially since I obviously cant fly I might as well focus on something else that I enjoy..
‘Thunderbirds’.. that was hilarious! Reminds me now of how old I am too because I remember that series, used to Luv it!
For over a year now all Ive ever wanted to do was experience the Joy and Thrill of flying a Quad and doing some FPV..
I just can’t understand why this has been so impossible, so frustrating and full of aggravation for me..

I see you guys here and on Utube, some of you as relatively new to this as I am, posting videos and commenting on experiences practically right out of the box..
And here I am, over a month and more than 2 dozen “attempted” flights later and Ive still only have barely gotten off the ground..
I was so full of enthusiasm, excitement and happiness last Friday when I was able to do 8 successful, albeit short, test flights in my yard to test the new 3-position settings I had finally figured out on that Radio – after countless hours of insane aggravation with it.
I was SO hopeful that FINALLY things were going to turn around for me and soon I might be able to join the ranks of you ‘Pilots’..
Yea.. this Byrd & her gear have been plagued with trouble from the very beginning..
Absolutely nothing has gone right and it’s hard not to conclude that for some mysterious reason apparently she, just like me, was just never meant to Fly.
It defies comprehension, it really does..
Considering my promising experience in the yard, I was very happy to drive the 45 mins all the way to the Airfield on the other end of the County, in addition to all the preparation & setup that entails, just to have that elusive Joy of really flying – just for once..
Only to be shot down in less than 1 minute..
Can you imagine how I felt..?
I have absolutely no idea what happened.. there was no plausible reason for it that I can see -and plenty of speculation..
At the time of the incident I was in Balance mode.
My sticks were leveled out and I was barely giving her some throttle for a steady rise.
I didn’t touch or do anything with the Radio that could have led to this, or switch to another mode..
None of the props came loose or broke because every piece was right there where she fell.
I’ve seen plenty of videos on Byrds suddenly losing it, flipping, props coming off and so forth, so I can only deduct that it does happen sometimes, for unexplainable reasons.
Sure, I suppose that something like an ESC or motor giving out can also happen..
Maybe we’ll never know..
Im still waiting on all the parts I had ordered after the last crash, that was several weeks ago now.
Which is another disappointing fact, parts are not available here in the USA and it takes so long to get anything..
What to do now?
Is it the ESC, or the motor.. or both?
Do I order one of each, or two of each to have a spare?
ESC’s are $13 and motors are $24 at one of the few parts suppliers I found.
Based on the idea it might be better to have a spare anyway, that would be another order of around $80+ depending on shipping.. plus several more weeks of wait..
Considering Ive already got over $900 invested in this doomed Byrd..
At what point does one say ‘Enough’..?
At this point I just don’t know if I want to continue throwing more good money into what all the signs are telling me is just going to be an ongoing ‘Fail’ with this particular Byrd..
Who knows, I might decide later on to do it one last time, spend more $ on those parts and put her back together as she was in the very beginning.. and see what happens..?
All jokes aside though, you guys cant imagine how disappointing it is to go -and have gone through- everything I have and be forced to endlessly sit on the sidelines watching you guys do what so far Ive only been able to dream about..

was a little worried the tiny ESC might be getting a bit warm in there stock location so hopefully they can now breath a little better..

APM 2.5 with FPV
So this is my not so standard 4S with APM 2.5 running Arducopter and fat shark FPV, all mounted to the top board with the battery now located underneath.
this enables me to access everything and maakes working on it alot easier, just waiting on a two axis camera gimbal and sonar.
test flight and fine tuning will be to night depending on weather

Based on the FUN I am having with the IFLY4, I just ordered the "S" version. I was getting bored with RC flying, now I have a new reason to go out and play. Only needed to make small adjustments to MIN / MAX GAs for the hover mode, also gave more "control" to Pitch and Roll - otherwise flys hands off......GREAT FUN

Can anyone suggest more powerful motors/esc Combo that would be suitable for IFLY 4S I would like to upgrade/change motors and esc on my quad.

I've upgraded to 15amp HK ESC's but still running the standard motors, I find it has plenty of power/weight ratio..

Official Death Certificate.
As evidenced by a last breath leaving her mangled body
in the form of a wisp of smoke and her last cry of pain
via the sound of a “Pop”.. she didn’t survive the emergency
surgery performed by Dr. Simon and Surgical Assistant Rick.
At approx. 3pm on Thrusday, March 7, 2013,
the iFly4-S died on the operating table and is hereby
Officially pronounced Dead.
Burial services to be held soon.
It was a pleasure and an honor to meet (fellow RCG forums member)
Simon today, what an Awesome guy!
Despite Simon’s extensive knowledge, experience and skills, and having
a detailed instruction sheet on the laptop for calibrating and programming the
new ESC, and a custom made adapter for the proprietary connector plug
made for me by my friends at HobbyTown this morning..
We could not get either one of the new ESC’s to initiate the throttle calibration
process or enter into programming mode – and we tried everything there is to try.
Initially we had tested the other 3 motors/ESC’s and they all worked just fine.
We tested the calibration mode on the other motors/ESC’s and had no problem
at all initiating the programming mode using the radio and Rx as per the instructions.
It was certain that the one motor in question was sticking and causing problems.
We tested the new motor and it worked fine on the other ESC’s..
While trying to figure out what the problem could be, about 2 Hrs into the
surgery, all of a sudden there was that dreaded little puff of smoke and “Pop”
sound from the FC..
That was the end of that.. dead.
No amount of ECR was able to revive it.
I suppose it will forever remain a mystery as to what may have
caused her sudden demise.. we didn’t do anything that might
have led to a power surge or whatever caused the unexplained frying..
After the autopsy, her surviving parts will be auctioned off..
