Got a 9958 this aft. Not a lot of trimming. Pretty much flew straight out of the box. Not so happy with the 4' toilet bowl circle, though.
40 dollar toy to sacrifice to the wind- would have been better dumped into my gas tank.
The woman is having fun with it. It's entertaining to watch her scamper after it when she crashes. It's not going to live long.
Save your money.

Well, initially this thread was to compare stock for stock and modded for modded.
Thanks to Wasp09, there's now a resistor mod (check my blog) that you can do to make the V911 do graceful piros.
There have been mods to make the 9958 more agile, and I'm sure they work, but I'd like to see anyone with a modded 9958 state that even after mods, it's as agile as the V911 (obviously owners of both).
Probably the biggest plus for the 9958 was it's ability to fly in the wind as well as do graceful piros. The V911 can do both with 2 mods, and in my opinion these two mods are 'must haves':
1) Paddles from the Xtreme MSR carbon flybar (can be installed on stock flybar very easily or even the Xtreme Solo Pro carbon flybar, although the flybar itself needs modification to fit the stock V911 head).
2) Resistor mod if you're using the stock transmitter. I like it so much that I leave it switched on when I'm flying indoors or out. It dampens your rudder response rate, which is really twitchy in stock form, but still allows quick 180 turns when you use full throw for avoiding walls\danger.
I don't know yet if the V911 can do piros as well as the 9958 (I'm going to guess yes but do them in a shorter radius as everyone will admit you need lots of space with the 9958), but with the resistor mod the V911 can do piros magnitudes better than the stock V911.

I don't quite get what the piro issue with the v911 is. I think it piros the best between the two heli. Care to elaborate what you mean by graceful piro? Isn't it just a matter of being more gentle on the rudder sticks? Perhaps the issue is I fly with the Turnigy 9x instead of the stock radio? I did get a chance to test a v911 the other day with the stock radio.

I installed longer control sticks on my stock controller, and even with those it was hard to do graceful turns with my V911. It's now idiot-proof with the resistor mod, but that just proves that it's not the V911 itself that limits it to nice piros like the 9958, it's the stock TX.
With the resistor mod, you can use advanced rates for good pitch control, but have dampened rudder control as in stock form with basic or advanced rates, rudder control too sensitive.

I see. Basically, it's too sensitive on the stock TX.
Yeah, once you start doing advance modding...you need a good way to control them. The Turnigy 9x is a good performance upgrade for these micro heli. You can set your sticks with more or less expo.
Don't even think about doing a v911RX-9958. You won't be able to have fun and control it properly without good sticks, POTS and programmable expos and DR.

I personally think the 9958VRX is the best flyer. I just that if you guys are having trouble controlling the stock heli with the stock remote, you can imagine the difficulty in trying to control a performance modified heli with the same. While on both my 9958 and v911, I prefer to fly with negative expo, (meaning sticks are more sensitive in the middle), the 9958VRX is the first heli I felt needed to have positive expo to tame it down. Much like the dialing in of positive expo the mCPX guys like to program into their cyclic sticks to tame that bird down.
It's like taking a modified car and putting a Fisher Price steering wheel on it. Unless one is highly skill and talented, I think any of us will have a hard time controlling that modified car with such a setup. I exaggerate to hopefully convey what I meant by my post above.
Don't go increasing performance to the extreme if you don't have a good way to control the heli first.

I also never complained about the stock TX being hard for me, I dont find it hard to finesse the v911 TX. I think its going to be a blast flying the 9958 w/ v911 RX. I know the stock TX is touchy but I kind of like that. I like that it piros so fast, it just means you need less stick input for rudder. Sure it would be nice to have a 9x TX but thats something Im looking at soon.

I wholly understand everyone's preference is different. I just wanted to put as much data out there as possible so you guys aren't taken by surprises. Sharing ideas and our results is the fun part in this community effort.
