I finally gave up on waiting for X9D or X12D -- and am building a ersky9x with the DJT on the 9x body. It will be essentially what I think the X9D is going to be. loud speaker, headphone plug, rotary encoder, mucho memory, USB, memory card, opterix higher quality LED backlit display - but only one display on the bottom like the X9D. I powered it up today, hope to put new firmware in tomorrow. I'll probably add aurora gimbals once the bugs get ironed out. Switched the Trainer switch to back left for mode 2 flyers also. Frankly, I'm not excited until the X16D is out -- but I'm thinking that will be a year from now.

I'm not so excited about the X16D, as the "large color screen" thing will likely delay porting custom firmwares to it, because of the major UI redesign needed.

X12D with 2 displays attracts me more. But I'll likely get an X9D first, will be simpler and cleaner than to take a 9x shell and replace basically everything inside as you're doing. My 9x with atmega128 replacement (twice the flash and especially model memory which was my biggest concern) is more than enough in the meantime.

So far my only concern has been the hardware quality, like the gimbals and the switches. (already had to open the trainer switch to fix it)
I'm doing some of those mods as well, got the telemetry done and next will be haptic feedback and the speaker.

I was going to order some parts from Farnell seems that a Mega128 will be part of the list.
But need to figure out the issue with my avrispmkII as it only works with 1000 and takes more than 30min to program...

My only big disappointment is not having the rotary input key like a JR 12x. Navigation will be a pain with those keys, not even left/right to navigate...
