Question
Flight Time

I am looking for ways to increase the flight time on my quad. I am using the Turnigy talon V2 frame with 1100kv motors, 3s battery, and 9x4.7 props. Originally I was getting around 10-12 minutes of flight time. Now that I have added a Mobius camera with a gimbal and my fpv gear, flight times are shorter. Is there anyway to increase the flight time? Could I switch to a lower kv motor and use larger props or would that have an adverse effect? Thanks.

Lower KV motors with bigger props @ 3S, or same props w/lower KV motors @ 4S. Also, you don't mention the size battery you're using; you may be able to go up in MAH with the same setup to regain some flight time.

For that 550-size frame, seems like 1100kv is a little high to begin with. Even a little Phantom uses lower KV with 3S. If you want to stick with 3S, 800-900KV motors would turn 11 or 12-inch props no problem, and you could use a 5 to 6000+ MAH battery to get the flight times you want. Same motors with 4S 5000MAH and your 9047 props might even get more.

Thanks for the info. I am currently using a 3000mah battery, but would the 5 to 6000 mah battery increase flight time even with the added weight? I have two 3000 mah batteries I will wire in parallel and see what that gives me.

Check the new multistar lipos on Hobbyking... 5200mah with 320g is what you need to get 14/15min

? Why 5200mah at 10C gives 52A constant. Its enough for 350/450 size quads...

If you need more use the 4S 5200mah.

Should be enough if you were only hovering with an empty 450class quad, which is not the case here, we are talking about a fully loaded 450class quad with a brushless gimbal, and my guess is that he would do more than just hovering. He will have much higher peak currents than 50-60amps.

My 500class quad is puffing my 5000mah 30c 4s lipos, but I fly mostly max throttle

That not true but i will not argue with you. Most 450 size quads dont take more than 20A hovering arround...

Or you have some rocket ship there...
