.049 power equivalent

I would like to build a power pod for an Air Hogs Titan glider. Great Planes sells a power pod with a "550 Thrustmaster" motor, or it can be used with an .049 ic motor. So, if I were to build a power pod for the Titan glider, what motor/prop/battery combination would you recommend?

An .049 is ~75-100W equivalent. A Blue/Silver Wonder 2730 motor from Hobby King would work well.. Kv (1300/1500/1700) would depend on what size prop and what voltage pack you wish to use.

.049 equivalent

Doc, thanks. I assume the wattages you list are for 1s,2s or 3s packs? What would an appropriate prop be for leisurly flying a 48" span Air Hogs Titan?

The wattage is 75W to 100W of input power. If you have a motor pulling 8A at 12V that is 96W or input power. Or if it is drawing 12A at 8V it is also 100W. Amps x Volts = Watts.

The Kv 1300/1500/1700 numbers are three different models of the Blue and Silver Wonder motors 24 gram motors. And the Kv 1300 motor turns at 1300 RPM for each volt of battery voltage, and the 1500 and 1700 turn at higher RPM per volt. Higher Kv motors use smaller props, lower Kv motor use larger but slower turning props.

You want to have mellow vintage type flying so you want larger, slower turning props. So you want the lowest Kv motor (1300 or so)

Here is some test data for the 1300 Kv 2730 motor that Dr Kiwi mentions. Pay attention to the test voltages, anything over 8.4V is a 3S pack, anything below that is 2S.

Look for a prop that will give you a thrust that is about 1/2 of the ready to fly weight of your plane.

More info here if it is the same plane:

What is the largest diameter prop that will fit? Given that, we can more easily recommend a suitable motor!

Best tested TD 0.49 ran up to 80 watts on 30% nitro.
Back when it was pertinent :-)
Hex 24 gramer / 2730 motor Can and Does spin a 7x6 prop at close to 10 A on 2 S....Effectively.. on an sub 8 ounce SEFF Combat Foamy, resulting in impressive verticals.
Weight as always, is the decider on performance
Lotsa 'in use' info in scratch built foamies forum ?
