Build Log
Scale Build Off 4 - 53" Tritle Champ

This could be the strangest way to start a build log....

Well, it was started once already, but I closed the thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2277239

I bought this short kit a few years ago from a fellow RCGer who told me it was a Tritle Chief. It has sat in the box on a shelf in my workshop since then, so in the back of my mind I have been planning on building that Chief for a while now. So I started a build log, and called it a Chief....only to finally realize that It's a Champ, not a Chief....

So, here we go again.....

Redommend you build in wing tip washout. Most airknockers have a tendency to unexpectedly tip stall at slow landing speeds. Other than that, they fly like a Champ.

Cubs are the same way. Because Tritle kits are built so light I don't add the washout until the wing is covered and use a heat gun and twist it in very last. Then I use an incidence meter to measure the washout. After the washout is added I then measure for the struts.

Thanks guys. This is exactly how I did the Cub and it seemed to work out well.

It's been a busy 4th quarter for my company, so the build is going slow. Managed to get some work done on the Champ today by building the wing struts and getting everything aligned on the jig.

Finally got the landing gear bent and mounted. Even made my own wire bender today after years of doing the multiple plier thing.

Looking really nice. I think I may have this kit in the stash. If not, it will get added eventually!!!

Great job.

My Chief had a bad crash late this summer and I have just finished repairing her. Haven't had a chance to take her out for a test flight yet. Very nice flyer though, as are all of Pat's creations.

Thank you. Found the scheme on airliners.net. Nice source for pictures of just about any type of aircraft. Covering is usually a big holdup for me. Not very good at it and I am always at a loss as to a scheme.

Got a little more work done today including the roll cage and some interior trim paint. I also got the motor mount attached and cowl fitted. As you can see, I added a bit of edging to help the cowl keep its shape.
