Question
Quantum 4530-500 and GAUI X7

Hello,

does anybody know a source for longer motor shafts to fit the 4530-500 into the X7?
By default, it is too short to reach the lower support bearing, and flying with unsupported shaft is out of the question.
Has there maybe a successful "transplantation" for a Scorpion 4035 XXL shaft, or is there any other shaft that fits?

I have done that exact "transplantation" on my Quantum and it fitted like a glove. Haven't finished with the heli build so still have to fly it. About 98% complete and should fly this Sat, but on the bench I cant find anything wrong with using that shaft.

Thanks.

After a couple of months in use, I can confirm that it works

In my opinion it is mandatory to grind some slots for the two set screws, otherwise it won't hold long (think thermal expansion).
It's easily done with a Proxxon / Dremel tool.

Grinding a slot also for the 2nd pinion set screw sounds like a good idea, but note that the 10 tooth pinion and the 11 tooth GAUI pinion have them at 180 degrees and 90 degrees, respectively.

Some test flight video from today's day on the beach:
GAUI X7 with Quantum motor (0 min 0 sec)

The flying isn't that brilliant, but I hope it gives some idea on power and consistency.
This is with a 10t pinion. I've also tried 11t - results in quite a bit more punch, but the 120A ESC overheats too easily. Well, a 160A YGE ESC is in the mail.

BTW the slots in the picture are a little off. If in doubt, use the original shaft for reference, align at the groove for the clip.

PS those large electric motors make me want to go back to nitro. Changing rear bearings on a .91? That's fun

Update: 2 years later and it still works.
The motor was a good choice - got two of them now. One does a pretty good job on 14 s with a 9 t pinion.
If I ever burn one, I'll have it rewound for 14s to 450 Kv, e.g. using the chart on slowflyworld.de
