i'd like to make a working driver before i go trying scale stuff
this will likely get worked on this fall/winter as i find the time. there is another pressing submarine project that i have yet to announce, and that might be a while still.

I got a set of 10mm counter rotating props from Shapeways. Ten of each, white, black, CW, CCW. Sorry, I lost the part number but they are very nice for projects where you have a pager motor in the water.

Pete, I have some 12mm counter rotating props that are much more aggressive, but would that be a good thing or a bad thing for subs this small?

Derk is the guy who can best answer that.

I wonder about making a four motor differential thrust sub that can turn, climb and dive on just motor thrust and maybe also roll by the same technique as quads use.

It can even go quads one better by having reverse thrust also.

Aim for neutral buoyancy and it would be like having an aerobatic sub. ( Or maybe that should be hydrobattic?)

I'm thinking of simple, waterproof pager motors and only the electronics sealed in the hull. Maybe with a quad board redesigned for IR, and a submersible IR light source linked by wire to the tx. I still think too much light is lost at the air/water interface, especially at flat angles.

I agree with you completely on the IR refraction at the surface. (and the hydrobatic part)
