Hi everyone, I am starting a FY-Panda II thread....
Here is what I have so far...
First please take some time to see my other threads, almost all the video's have some commonality with the Panda, FY products are all very similar in how they work as well as the GCS is common to all of them.
I will cross post some of the relevent videos like GCS and map making
Some general info
1) Panda II is an IMU autopilot (no thermo piles)
2) it has onboard memory dedicated to recording the flight path as well as the photo trigger points for geotagging your photos
3) it has an onboard compass which I hope will be correcting cross track
4) it has a functioning GCS in windows 7
5) the AP can remember up to 199 waypoints
6) it can also RTL, circle at given location and do "click and fly"
7) it works with xbee pro ttl modems
8)it has an airspeed sensor!!! yipee!!!
9) it is VERY easy to hook up and get flyling
10) it is the most expensive but hopefully most powerfull autopilot from Feiyutech
Who am I?
I do not work for FY, however they did send me this autopilot for testing before it's release. I hope to give them feedback but in the past they have had 90% issues sorted out by the time it gets to me. Usually I provide suggestions for work flow and what works well as a user of this technology for work purposes.
About me.. I own or have tried the following for fixed wing craft.
1) Ardupilot (sorry FY is still much better than even APM 2.5 but that is just my opinion of course)
2) Atto pilot (never really got the support I wanted and they moved on wanting more money for features I thought were standard)
3) FY-31AP (excellent system and still flying it)
4) FY-DOS (very good and flying in two wings)
5) FY-Panda system (very good, flown in two skywalkwers and one X8 all flew well)
6) Eagle Tree (excellent but no waypionts or GCS)
Ok I will reserve some first posts then update as required.
I have no manual at this time at all.. but I am quite certain this will be a piece of cake as all of their other products are...

where do I buy it?
My plane flies in a big S over correcting what can I try to tune it?
can I use my own modem?
yes any standard xbee protocol or 3DR modem will work
does it work with XP?
I don't have any issues personally, if you do let me know and I will post them here
how do I upgrade firmware?
with a downloadable utility see the downloads page on their website... FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY.
how cold can it be to fly?
I have flown other FY products in 0 deg C with no issues.
will it display my voltages and current on the GCS and the OSD?
Where can I find the latest gcs download?
the latest one is found here http://www.feiyu-tech.com/download-e...d=43&nav_num=6 I have it working on windowns 7. Run AND INSTALL this program as an administrator.
There is a 2D GCS now but I need to make a map (gst and jpg file) for it... where do I get the program?
They now have two programs to make the offline 2D maps, one called mapmaker which I have a how to video below for and one called GScreen but I need to make a video for that.

how do I attach an OSD?
there is a dedicated OSD port on the Panda II... I am not sure if this is for the Hornet or a new OSD coming.... time will tell

Two questions abut GCS and one about the panda
1. Is the map directly connected to google earth, or do you have to create a bitmap first to use in the GCS?
I saw somewhere a program called map creator. Wonder what it does.
2. Can GCS be used offline?
3. You say that panda2 is much better than ardupilot 2.5. Can you elaborate a bit?

there are two GCS's available, one that works only online with internet connection and one that is offline with a map that you create using their software and can be used offline without internet.
Is it better than ardupilot? well I don't know. I have flown APM very little and want to try it more... essentially PANDA and most FY products seem to "work" out of the box quite well.
APM is very powerful and has huge potential... however I have not had much luck with it.
If I were you I would start with a cheap FY product, like DOS, 31AP or 41AP and see how you like it.... maybe they will be all you need!!!
I don't want you to think that APM is no good... I need more time with it to make a true comparison.
Hope this helps and again... buy a cheaper FY product (41AP looks great!) and go from there!

Do you know if it exists a side by side comparacy of the FY products?
I struggle to find the detailed difference between Panda 2 and 41AP.
Except that The Panda 2 seem to have more waypoints and can do auto-landing.
If a comparacy chart does not exist and you are in touch with the FY guys, this is something you might want to suggest.

yes that is the major difference at the moment....
Panda II has more waypoints, better auto take off and landing.
41AP has less waypoints, built in OSD
I would very seriously get the 41AP to "test the waters" some people hate the lack of english instructions and the GCS needs a decent computer running windows 7
I think you will do best to get a cheaper one and then upgrade later.... or you may have all you need!
I can't comment on how good the auto land etc is... personally I dont use autoland because I usually land in challenging situations....

nope but there is onboard logging for photos.
I am struggling right now getting a good flight path... they are sending me an updated firmware and hopefully she flies better...

I am pretty sure yes, there is a manual you can download and I think I saw that in ther.
Again I need more time to tune, I will know more today if I can get better results for the autopilot.
They have a new firmware for me but they have not sent it yet.

Good news guys. I have my PANDA II flying reasonably well now.
I have set my X5 airplane and my X8 airplane gains to approximately
30 1 80
Yes the numers are insane but here is what I gather from both the manual and my many days of playing with numbers.
The first number is the max bank angle the plane will use to make a turn (not so much realted to a bank angle when it's on a path)
The second number you can think of it like how hard it tries to get back on track (cross track correction if you know APM speak) if it's too high it will try and hit the track at 90 degrees and that is not good because then it has to turn 180 degrees the other way to get to the track again... First set it to zero... it's not truely zero but zero is the lowest gain number. If it were truely zero then it would not follow along the track but rather it would go directly to the waypoint. Even with zero it will still follow the track.
Now you will notice a lazy S as it follows the track but no crazy back and forth 90 degrees to the path. So this brings in the third number. Incraease that and it will start to tighten up the S... too high and the plane will bank quickly to stay on course (good for maintaingin course but not good for smooth flight)
Now go back and maybe increase the second number to say 2. If the plane starts to over correct on the path again then you are too high... go back to 1 or 0
I was able to tune my DOS, Panda and Panda 2 all in one evening using this method.
The up wind path was excellent,
The path after the plane turns from cross wind to up wind was excellent
The path after the plane turns from cross wind to down wind was a long S but not too bad
The path after the plane turns from down wind to cross wind was again a long S but not bad.
I will now mess with the route stability and see how it applies to a flying wing (you would think from the manual that it does not apply to a plane without rudder but I found it really can mess up your flight path with a wing too)
