I got one of these at an auction. It's been a pleasant surprise.

I had just gotten back into R/C after a long layoff. This was my transition to low tapered wing planes, but still had trike gear to ease takeoffs and landings.

I powered it with a 3536-910KV, a 12x6E cut to 10x6, and a 3S 2200. 285 watts. I get over 10 minutes. It isn't quite enough power to do a loop from level flight.

The best thing is the plane has no bad habits. It's a really good choice for someone's 2nd plane.

Yes, you need more power for that Leader! The Eflite 480 was better than that. I fly with an Eflite Power10 with 10x7E prop and get complements every time out. Some favorite moves are a stall turn with a full roll on the upline and large loops with full roll at the top. I usually fly the intermediate sequence with loops w/roll, spins, snap rolls and knife edge pass added.

Had a servo fail after 325 flights on the last one, but have a spare in the box!! (won't be using Eflite servos this time - 3 crashes in two different planes this past summer.....)

I need to add that I am using this plane as a "trainer" of sorts. I can do most normal aerobatics, but am aware of power constraints. But it is still my "2nd plane", so I am happy with the power choice I made.

So a question: If and when I want to upgrade, should I switch to 4S or a better motor? Or both? I should note I can easily move the battery back to maintain CG.

A Rimfire .15 on 4S will push this plane to its reasonable limits. It's a blast every time I fly it. There's a video of it a number of posts back.

The Eflite Power 10 uses the same bolt pattern as the stock 480, just use smaller spacers. Mine are 5mm (3/16"). My Eflite 40A esc works fine with the P10, but a Hobbwing flyfun 40A gets quite hot....... 2200mAh 3 cell is located all the way back to the servo tray. A small extra weight on the tail and a rudder extension was required for a decent knife edge.

I bought some last year with the intent of installing them, but haven't done it. I think it was the thought of having to make the cuts into the wings that stopped me.

Took my Leader out after a long time. Still flies beautifully, although it needed a lot of elevator trim to fly straight. I've never been too good at landing this plane, it always end up coming a bit harder than I would like. Not had much issues with it until today, when the motor mount decided to break.

Had some flights today after replacing the Park 480 motor with a Power 10. Balancing required a 10g weight on the tail. I will not be going back to the 480 as the plane doesn't run out of energy in the climb and large loops are so much easier.

The Power 10 weighs more that the Park 480… The weight of the Power 10 is 122g and the Park 480 is 87g. You must be leaving something out of that description because that can't be.

Indeed, I used motor mounts described by TennFlyer above and moved the esc back by 7cm approximately.
