Before anyone gets the idea I don't know how to tumble, I do. I learned to tumble from Bone Doc himself. So my repaired 71 does not want to tumble. Balance and thrust angle tests look normal. It will still pop top and all that other good stuff, it just will not tumble. Any ideas about what I should be looking for? THANKS!

Well not knowing what happened exactly and going off the fact that a motor box was replaced. It could be now you have some incidence issues if the wing tub had broken out and needed to be remounted. Could also be the repair added enough weight to change things. How are you testing thrust angle?

Are you using the same type and size of prop as before? I've found that a plane can fly drastically different between props. Gyroscopic differences with weight changes and the amount of airflow over the control surfaces are my guess.

Other issues may be a change in C of G after the repairs, or reduced control throws after the repair (radio setup, not on high rates, linkage changes, servos with less torque, etc). I assume there was a crash if you had to do a motor box, so you could also have a damaged servo. Cycle your servos while applying some back pressure to the control surface. Feel for week servos and rough gears.

More info on the crash and the repairs that were done would be helpful.

Crash was LVC shutdown. Still had all surfaces. Pancaked in hard on it's belly. Folded the L/G back. No other real damage other than the cowl , wheel pants and holes in bottom of wings. Still using the same prop as a matter of fact. I'm no builder, so I had an experienced builder put in a new motorbox. Moved the battery back to adjust c/g. The c/g is just ahead of neutral where I always run it on all my planes. For thrust line check I go full throttle straight and level downwind and chop throttle to zero, very little effect. Servos still have fast, full deflection and perform well in other violent maneuvers. Today I will manually check backpressure and go over plane again for bad linkages. Thanks for the help guys!

Check your elevator joiner and rudder pull-pull wires too while you are looking things over.

I need an elevator control horn for my 71. I had to make a repair, now I need to put 2 servos on the elevator. If anyone has a spare you'd like to sell, you'd be my hero forever.

Thanks

Chuck
