Dodgson Designs

Been out of R/C for about 10 years now and wanting to get back into it. Still have a few of Bobs kits and planes.

Built:
Saber
Windsong
Wee-Giiante
Vee-Gilante

Kits:
Anthem
Pivot Plus
Todi

Anyone still flying Bobs planes?

I have thought about building it, but every time I decided to just leave it in the box..

Would you have any pictures of your Todi?

I have a V-Gilante kit with both 2M and Std Class wings. Are you still flying either of the _-Gilante sailplanes and, if you are, how do you like them? BTW, the Pivot plus gives you a smaller version of the classic (and it is a true classic) look of the most beautiful R/C sailplane ever, a Dodgson Windsong. It would be tempting to convert the Pivot Plus to a full house mini Windsong with today's modern electronics.

That would be a fun project to build the Pivot as a full house bird. The one I have is the 7037 with obichi sheeting thats still NIB.

The Gilante's flew very well and were a lot of fun. I have not flown for over 10 years and they were packed away years before I quit flying.

I sold a few of my kits years ago and wish I had kept them all...

I have an Anthem I'm finishing re-doing with an extra fuse.
I just picked up a Camano a few days ago.

Haven't had either in the air yet as they are both used and needed some work but they are close.

I have a Maestro MkIII that needs a little TLC to fly again. Needs a new rudder and radio. Wings may need some work, haven't looked at the Maestro for a long time.

I built and flew a Camano with a built-up wing, that was one of the sweetest flying planes I have flown.

Ahh thank you for the Camano pics.
I have the same built up wing. I've been a bit confused, when I did an image search of the Camano I found ones with foam and balsa wings that looked more the the wind/love song line. The built up wing had thrown me for a loop. Plus the stab was higher that the other images I had seen.
The only google image that came up which looked like mine was oddly your blue and white one.

The original builder made a lot of changes. He has a dual main wing rod, added the counter balance to the rudder and extended the wing with a really odd looking tip.

Hard to see from the photo but the tip has a nice taper in the front but the trailing edge sweeps back so you have the wing with a nice forward taper along the TE then a tip that sweeps back.

Those wing tips do look odd for the Camano..

Other than my Camano having a built up wing it also had a clear canopy. Most of the Camano's I have ever seen have fiberglass canopies...

The rudder on yours also looks a lot bigger..

I'm torn on if to cut the tips off or try to rework the trailing edge to match the rest of the wing. Each panel measures out at 64" with tip. I attached a better pic straight on showing the oddness of it.

Yes the rudder is also huge. Might try trimming that down also looks like the fin was cut to add the extra to the front of the rudder.
Also included photos of the canopy and dual main wing rod. No idea why that was done or where to balance it.
Tried to find a copy of the plan so I would have an idea. balance at first rod or second who knows.....

What was the span of the stock wing of the Camano?

The original span of the kits we have is 111.5". The Camano 100" was another version of it with foam core wings sheeted with balsa.

Holy wing rods.......

Since yours has a built-up wing it also has the clear canopy.

Here's an image I googledd and copied that has the stats.

Greetings,
I currently have a Windsong, Camano, and a Pixie in flying condition. I have them set up with the original mechanical mixers, with modern 2.4 radio gear. I also have a Pivot that is nearly completed. These sailplanes are by far my favorite flying machines. It is great to read that others are keeping these classics alive. Regards, Mark
