4.6/480

Been using this motor to haul my Paragon with good results.
The cost is very good. Worth the try.

Same 3858 4.6/840 as John, in a 2.2kg/5lbs BoT, spinning a 14x8 from 3s.
Not far from MVVS used before, a 5.6/690, just a bit more noisy.

tkallev, is that your opinion or your experience with that line of motors?

From what I have experienced only about 98% of all of the motors that we use are manufactured in China, so to say something is Chinese junk just because is was made in China is only opinion, and everyone has one.

What are the other options for that type of motor? MVVS? any others out there?

I have several Hyperion motors glider and non-glider variety. They are having a fire sale on them however, the backorder wait may be long. But they are really nice motors, IMHO.

I like AlleRC for my motor purchases.

I'm not sure this means they have a a couple hundred year lead in electric motors, but if you say so...

I have two of the Hyperion motors and am pleased with their performance, but I like to design of the MVVS, an outrunner in a can as they call it. The Turnigy GliderDrive motors seem to be similar in design, as the do not have the magnets rotating on the rear of the motor.
Anyone have any experience with the MVVS motors?

There are a few pilots here in our club that have different sizes of MVVS motors. They all like them and I have heard of no ill results. They are heavier due to the external can I suppose, so if the weight isn't an issue I think you will like them too.

I have a MVVS 5.6/960 motor in a Taborca with a 14.5x9 prop I think, 3S. It works very well, but is a bit heavy (270g). The Taborca is 4kg, and needs the nose weight anyway. It is nice to have the rotating bits hidden away, and it does make good power for this big, heavy glider.

MVVS and Hobby King SK-3 and Hyperion

I have a number of ALES motors that I have bench tested with various diameter and pitch propellors and LiPo combinations.

In a direst comparison the MVVS 4.60/840 and the Hobby king 4.6/840 kv will swing the same prop at the same rpm's and current draw

I've been running the MVVS for a year now and am very happy.

If I compete I can switch motors quickly if needed.

The Hyperion glider motors are also very good on numbers,,,,,,,,,,,,,only drawback is the motor leads exit the housing toward the front of Motor (just behind where the tapered nose ends.

The MVVS and SK-3's have the leads exiting the rear of the motor,,,,,,,,,nice.

In comparing the 500watt motors the MVVS are the heaviest, but interestingly the Hyperion are not the lightest, I hope that I am comparing apples to apples, with in reason... Copy and paste from the websites:

Gs3020 Outrunner Motors Gs3020-12
Kv (rpm/V) 780
Max Power (W) 550W
Max Amp (15sec) 50A
Max Efficiency 85%
Io (No load A) 1.21A
Rm (Resistance) 0.031Ohm
Shaft Diameter 5mm
Gearbox N/A
Motor Diameter 37.5mm

Motor Weight 176g
Max Rpm 15,000
Poles 14
Case Outrunner
ESC Timing 20-25 deg
ESC Switching Freq. 8-16KHz

All of these are around 500 watts and around 960kv.

I like it that the MVVS and the Glider
Drive don't have any rotating parts on the outside of the motors.

And just an FYI, I'm looking at reasonable costing motors that don't cost an arm and a leg, I actually know what an arm and a leg would cost, but I also want to spend my dollars wisely. If I'm going to spend big bucks I would rather spend them on something that doesn't just operate for 30 seconds...
