With all the bottom strips in place and the strips for the "fuse tubes" in place it's time to put the SFGs on. Next the LED strip on the leading edge of the wing will be installed.

I put the 6mm strip from Hobby Partz on the leading edge of the wing and each SFG. The strip on the SFG is 20mm from the wing. Mounted low like this the strip shines over the wing surface, adding to visibility.

Plan out your strips before gluing them down. Tin the pads in the locations necessary for the interconnect wiring. When possible, solder wires to the strip before sticking it on. I usually put on some "starter" wires.

The elevator top will have a simple "V" on it. To cross a hinge line with LED strip, just put a small kink in at the hinge line to allow movement.

Now with all the strip installed it's time to interconnect all those strips.

A note on daisy chaining connections. Sometimes it is easier to make up some wires before hand to daisy chain connections.
  • Strip two wires a bit long
  • Twist together
  • Tin with solder
  • Trim down to pad size

With all the strips interconnected I braid the feed wires to make a cable, tie all the ends together and solder to a balance tap connector. I cut all the middle pins out of the connector for safety.

Mount all the servos.

Note on control horns: I have used the plywood or phenolic horns that come with the kits in the past. This type of horn is flat, and just pushes down into a slit and is glued. They break out easily and cause "Secondary crases" when the horn becomes loosened in a mishap and then later comes loose in flight.

These pin type horns from Hobby King used with an extra gusset on each side of the surface are excellent and never come loose.

A bright glowing motor box.

The top "LED Tubes" shine thru the bottom so much I won't use any on the bottom of the next one. The colors mix and make a nice orange glow on the bottom.

Maybe install red on one corner and blue on the opposite so the other corners appear purple?

I will mock up some lights on a piece of Depron and see what that looks like.

Twins!

The bottoms are slightly different. I still think the "V" is the best.

LED strip mounted low on the SFG is the way to go. Really lights up the wing.
