Extreme Flight 64" MXS EXP official build, fly, and video thread!

The new 64” MXS EXP is the latest in ExtremeFlight’s EXP series. EXP stands for EXperimental Progressive, and all of the EXP series airplanes have significant liberties taken during the design phase to make the plane all it can be without compromising flight performance for a perfectly scale outline. Like the 60” Extra 300EXP and 60” Edge 540T-EXP, the 64” MXS EXP is designed around the Torque 4016T/500 motor, Airboss 80 amp ESC, and 4 mini servos like the Hitec 5245, 7245, JR 3711, or similar.

At SEFF this year I got my first look at the new MXS. Chris Hinson gave me the honor of trying out one of the prototypes and I was really amazed at how well it flew! I expected it to be a fast, fun, high-energy tumbler with great 3D capabilities. It did all of that better than any plane I’ve flown to date…however, I was also pleasantly surprised by how precise and stable it was around center, with negligible rudder coupling and excellent tracking. In my opinion it actually gives the Extra a run for its money in the precision realm!

After finishing up some obligations to another sponsor, I approached Chris about representing ExtremeFlight. He was happy to have me on board and I can say that I am thrilled to be on Team Extreme! I know that I am in great company here and flying and representing the best airframes money can buy. My first endeavor would be the build thread and some videos of the new 64” MXS.

I know we have a thread of this airplane already, but it’s a bit cluttered and stretches from the airplane’s announcement all the way to present…so for the official build this is going to be the new thread.

Without further ado, let’s get started. Here’s my planned set-up:

Torque 4016T/500 V2
Airboss 80
Xoar 15x8 wood prop
Futaba S9070SB servos on 8.0V from Castle BEC
Pulse 3300 mah 6S 45C batteries

I will be starting the build tonight. I’ve looked the plane over and the quality is impeccable…this one is going to be a joy to put together!

Edit: skip to the third post for Chris Jewett's fantastic build videos.

She's done and maidened!

Wow, what an incredible plane. I honestly think this one may replace the Extra as my favorite 60" plane. It has all the smooth precision of the Extra with the dumb simple harrier characteristics of the Edge and the best tumbling and pop-tops ever. Despite this craziness it never feels nervous or unforgiving, and it's entirely different from anything else at the field. I love it! I'll edit this later as I get more time on it and can tell you more.

The Futaba S9070 servos are very impressive so far as well. I would say the center better than the Hitec 7245's. Time will tell how they hold up; the Hitec's have been absolutely rock solid through hundreds of flights of ruthless abuse.

The new Torque motor makes just silly power as well.

Thanks for the kind words Doc, and if I'm in the area I'll be sure to take you up on it. Conversely, if you're ever in NH let me know! We've got some incredibly pilots up here and you would be more than welcome.

Having no sixties in the hangar and only the 48's.

The sixties are
-floatier
-faster
-easier to fly
-handles wind better

I've been eyeing them for awhile but just can't pull the trigger yet. Hitec has some hv servos that are thirty less than the jrs but overall I need more batteries also.

Also congrats cody
