Hi

Can someone please tell me if the beast has a built in down thrust for the motor ??

a photo will be greatly appreciated ... because I've glued back the nose and I think the thrust angle has changed after gluing ... most probably because the foam has been slightly deformed from original shape

it should be down and right correct ?

Thanks a lot

Khaled

Eflite UMX Beast 3D Snow Floats Maiden Flight - Snow Beast

This is a Snow Maiden Flight with my UMX Beast 3D outfitted with the UMX Carbon Cub SS Floats.

Eflite UMX Beast 3D Snow Floats Flight - Snow Beast (5 min 11 sec)

With 2 days of a Colorado Blizzard leaving me stuck at home with nothing to do but want to fly my upgraded UMX Beast 3D (3000 Kv Motor / GWS 5030 Prop), what do you do? Outfit it with the UMX Carbon Cub SS Optional Floats and wait for it to stop snowing!

This set of Floats is the same set that I used with the Custom .047 Music Wire Front Arm and Rear Keystone Mounting Bracket that I previously used on my Hobbyzone Champ Crophopper (2S Brushless w/ Ailerons): http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2564877 The Custom .047 Music Wire Front Arm that I made for my Hobbyzone Champ Crophopper (2S Brushless w/ Ailerons) also happened to fit correctly on the UMX Beast 3D, and all that was left to do was create a Mounting Point for the Rear Arm holding the Keystone Bracket. This was accomplished with a small square piece of Scotch Tape on the Rear Mounting Area of the Fuselage, followed by a square piece of Industrial Velcro. The Velcro itself can be removed (when it is applied on top of the square Scotch Tape-surfaced part of the Fuselage) later, damage-free. The Industrial Velcro then attaches to the Rear Keystone, providing a shock-absorbing and secure attachment point.

Winds at the Valor Highschool Football Field were fairly gusty, however proved no match for the UMX Beast 3D's AS3X wind-fighting capability. With the floats, there was noticeable drag, yet the UMX Beast 3D remained very nimble and aerobatic. Using the Eflite 2S 280 mAh Lipos, I was easily able to achieve my 5-Minute Flight Time Mark, leaving the Lipos at 7.67 Volts with no LVC.

MODIFICATIONS / UPGRADES
Motor: Eflite 3000Kv 180 Brushless Outrunner
Prop: GWS 5030 Prop
Prop Adapter: CNC Small Parts Aluminum Prop Adapter
Spinner: Shapeways 3D Printed Custom Plastic Spinner
Landing Gear: UMX Carbon Cub SS Floats

Transmitter: Spektrum DX6
Battery: Eflite 2S 280 mAh
Timer: 5 Minutes
BL180 Outrunner Discharge: 7.67 Volts out of 8.40 Volts

Camera: iPhone 6 at 1080P / 60 FPS
Headmount: http://www.amazon.com/Mount-Smartpho..._detailpages00

That's a great Idea! I went all winter without flying either of my Beasts and I have a Carbon Cub on floats hanging right beside the beast!

Now I can't wait for next winter! .........I really can't believe I just said that out loud.. hahaha!

Thanks Smitty! Yeah, I had a good time at this new location despite the gusting of the area. Not too much of a fan of windsurfing flights and it really tested the amount of drag I was pushing. I really wanted to get a better feel of how the setup does in calmer conditions, but beggars can't be choosers, and I had the itch to go fly.

If you have a pair of UMX Carbon Cub SS Floats and some handiness with a pair of pliers, you should try purchasing some .047 Music Wire. I purchased a pack of them at my LHS for cheap. All you pretty much do is try to duplicate as best as you can the Landing Gear insertion point of the wire to make it fit. The front arm that I created for my Champ Crophopper just so happened to fit snugly in my UMX Beast 3D, so connecting the back with that Rear UMX Carbon Cub SS Keystone was easy and damage free. No foam cutting or drilling in the back required, so my UMX Beast 3D still looks new.
