Charge/Discharge lipos for storage

I have a Hitec X1 Touch charger.
Can anyone tell me how to Charge/Discharge a Lipo battery to the proper level for winter storage?

Thanks!
Ron

does it have a storage charge or a discharger function? set that to 3.8V/cell.

Use the Storage mode as shown in your manual.
Storage voltage should be between 3.7V to 3.9V per cell.

Will the battery stay at that charge if stored in a cool place?

Yes - You can check the voltage, from time to time. Normally its not needed.

No. NiMH / NiCD type batterys should be charged fully for storage. Check periodically and top up if necessary.

LiPo need to be at 3.7 - 3.9v per cell storage but NiXX format should be fully charged.

What Nigel said, with one small adjustment - NiCd (and NiMH to a lesser degree) should be stored in a discharged state for best preservation.

Read here for more info on why: http://www.camlight.com/techinfo/techtips.html

The subject of storage of NiMH packs is one that has two camps and they disagree ... Mark links to Camlight where they say store at 0.9v ... but the Energizer Manufacturing Co. say full charged :

Quote:
Recommended Storage Conditions for Maximum Battery Performance
 Store at the lowest feasible temperatures (-20C to 30C being the generally recommended storage temperatures).
 Store batteries open-circuit to eliminate loaded storage effects (see next page).
 Store in a charged condition (except for large bulk volumes).
 Store in a clean, dry, protected environment to minimize physical damage to batteries.
Use good inventory practices (first in, first out) to reduce time batteries spend in storage.
It is generally accepted that NiXX chemistry cellls are far more tolerant of storage than a LiPo ... and NiXX are also regarded as easier to cycle after storage to recover ability. Both Camlight and Energizer mention cycling in fact.

I follow Energizer basically because a pal of mine was a Senior Tech with Mallory and it agrees with his chats with me ... but of course is no g'tee ...
